Family Focus Friday: Target Shop Fail
I can’t believe it’s Labor Day weekend…and the bridge into September already. Is summer really gone now? And I would have thought the second week of school would go great. Getting the schedule down, no more freak out moments, feeling like a pro…but for some reason, it’s worse.
Overtired. Looks like the first week week of school caught up with us. Early wake up times have been harder and harder for my son. First week, he would bound awake, excited to go to school. Now? Turn over, covers over head….and I’ve even been on the receiving end of a few punches. Someone please tell me this gets easier! He’s too young to be acting like a sleepy teen!
He’s not the only one. Baby girl has had a lot of adjusting to the new schedule too, including messing up her beauty sleep. Early nap times (and cabbage patch dancing from mom) and earlier bed times sounds wonderful, until a sleepy monster shows up at your side of the bed at 3 am. And she does the sleepy quiet stare. I know, super scary!
And then there’s me. I’m falling apart at the seams some day to get work done, lunches made, terrible two tantrums under control.
So I had this brilliant idea.
I’ll take them to Target! The magical land of Target, where toys overfloweth. A Thursday night adventure to grab needed lunchbox items for my son, sippy cups for my daughter and the unexpected $100s I knew I would spend just by stepping a toe inside. Target, the answer to my hectic week and grumpy kids.
Except my brilliant idea took place at 6:30 pm, after the kids ate dinner. Why I thought full and happy bellies would equal a pleasant trip…that is my downfall. By 6:30 pm, they had hit a wall. And yes, BOTH of them. A toddler that refused to sit, a boy that would wander away…oh and a phone call from my husband. Baby screaming, boy whining, and an exasperated me trying to tell my husband it’s NOT a good time to talk. To anyone passing me by in the aisles, I’m so sorry. I looked like a hot mess for sure. Somehow, out of sheer perseverance, we made it out alive.
I had a Target Shop Fail. Needless to say, I will be heading to another store tonight….ALONE.
