Universal Orlando Resort Review | New Rides & A Surprising Twist
Confession, it’s been many years since I’ve visited Universal Orlando Resort. It was definitely pre-baby #1 for Islands of Adventure. I honestly can’t remember the last time I went to Universal Studios. I daresay before kids??? So you can imagine my excitement (and amazement) when I got to witness all of the changes for myself.
Before children, you would have found me at Islands of Adventure, riding roller coasters probably all-day, only stopping to take in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I was completely uninterested in the rides over at Universal Studios; you could even say I was bored.
Fast forward to December 2013, I got to take my family to both parks in a fantastic day. So of course, I thought that we’d stay at Universal Studios for a little bit then pop over to Islands for the rest of the day. Wow, were we in for some amazing changes at Universal Studios!
My son’s first 3D ride! Transformers 3D was so FUN! Stop Megatron and save the world from ultimate destruction…my son’s kind of ride! He loved helping Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee. I loved that they had mini “pauses” (aka slower moments) where my boy could catch his breath and take in the next scene.
Not only do we have The Mummy, but the Rip Ride RockIt Roller Coaster has all of the thrills you would find over at Islands. A corkscrew vertical loop? Yes, please!
Want a beer? Check out the expanded Springfield U.S.A. over by the Simpsons Ride. New Krusty Burger, Moe’s Tavern, Duff Brewery, Lard Lad Donuts and more! Plus there’s a new ride appropriately named Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl.
Diagon Alley, how exciting! I could sit there and take in the view all day. The new London themed buildings were making big progress. I can’t wait to see the finished product! Goodbye Jaws, hello Leaky Cauldron! And don’t worry, we still made it over to say hi to Harry and ride a few rides at Islands of Adventure too 🙂
Have kids? Be sure to grab those Express Passes. My sanity was saved thanks to these little gems, and we got to enjoy all of the FUN new rides (including Despicable Me Minion Mayhem & Transformers 3D) without waiting in the hour+ lines!
So what’s the twist? I think I’m a convert. Yes, you will find me and my family now roaming Universal Studios and taking in all of the FUN and new rides they have to offer. I am so impressed with all of the changes and upgrades to Universal Studios that I may only sneak over to Islands for a Butterbeer. Good job Universal, and thanks for making your parks more enjoyable and family-friendly! I can’t wait to come back for a visit when Diagon Alley opens up. I will certainly be waiting to take the Hogwarts Express!
