The Truth About Gift Giving
Gift giving isn’t always easy. I wish I could say that giving is second nature to my kids. But the truth is, they need to be reminded and reminded often that the holidays aren’t all about them and presents. Replacing that “ego” driven millennial mindset requires strong actions and good parenting.
It’s not enough to tell them to give. I have to plant roots. I have to lead by example.
Gift giving for me, on the other hand, is my jam. Finding the perfect gift – whether it’s for my kids, my family or my friends – and watching their reactions, it really gives me so much joy. But let’s face it. If I went and bought a gift for every single person I know – my bank account would be in BIG trouble.
I learned recently from SunTrust that the pressure to spend during the holidays is high, especially on gifts. But some of the best gifts don’t need a heavy price tag to be perfect. It’s time to slow down the holidays. Keep it simple, humble and baked with love.
If food is my love language, then Christmas cookies are my song. Cookie giving is one of my family’s favorite Christmas traditions.
When everything is rush, rush, rush, baking cookies reminds me to slow down and enjoy the season. With my kids in the kitchen, we mix, measure, we fill the house with the sweet smell of holiday love. Each cookie is carefully counted, boxed and designated with a particular family in mind. Then with outfits chosen, smiles on and arms outstretched, we hand deliver each cookie batch to our loved ones.

Thank you for this wonderful post. I enjoyed it very much. It is refreshing to know there are still those out there that give gifts such as baked cookies for the holidays. I myself would much rather have a freshly baked batch of cookies than something from the store, not that I wouldn’t be just as appreciative it just feels a bit special knowing something was baked for you. Keep spreading the Christmas cheer and have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
