Toy Story 4 Annie Potts Interview | Why Bo Peep Is the Most Kick @$$ Character of the Movie
The “Bo” is back in town, and she’s leaving the lamp behind her. Y’all know that I’m not much for swear words. But Annie Potts said it best when she called her character a “kick-@$$ Bo” in Toy Story 4 (see no spoiler parent movie review HERE). And honestly, I couldn’t agree with her more.
From ripping off her skirt to sporting an all-new ride, Bo Peep is not just tending sheep these days in Toy Story 4. She’s changing lives, empowering kids, and ultimately is one of the BIGGEST roles in the newest Pixar sequel. Why is this toy causing such a stir? We sat down in this exclusive Toy Story 4 Annie Potts interview to find out why “all bets are off” when it comes to Bo Peep’s return to the big screen.
Bo Peep’s New Look Is Legit
Right away, you can’t help but notice Bo Peep’s new look in Toy Story 4. Standing taller, hands on hip and in pants, no less. She’s kicking butt and taking names. She’s ripping off the skirt and sporting full pantaloons. And as the story unfolds, you’ll see just how important this new look is to revealing Bo Peep’s true character.
She’d had some limitations before being a lamp. Once they got her off the base, all bets were off. Ripped off her skirt, uses it as a cape. She’s very sassy.
Trading in a Lamp for a New Ride?
Spoiler alert: Bo Peep is mobile! No, like she’s actually driving a skunk-mobile. Clever, resourceful and well, not afraid to get a little dirty (stinky?), this toy is using her fearlessness to her advantage, and sporting a new ride. How does Annie Potts feel about that?
This girl drives a Skunk-mobile. No one is going to screw with her.
An Awesome New Sidekick, Giggle McDimples
Balance for all of the kick *ss-ness, the ying to her yang, Bo Peep has also picked up a new sidekick in Toy Story 4. And Giggle McDimples (played by Ally Maki) is small but mighty.
[She’s] what all our best friends do to us. You know, the one you tell your troubles to. It’s a metaphor for your bestie who’s always right there to hear the best and the worst of what’s going on with you. She’s adorable too.
The Sheep Are Back & Better Than Ever (& Finally Have Names!)
Were you worried the Giggle McDimples replaced Bo’s sheep trio? No worries, y’all. The original sidekicks, Bo Peep’s sheep are back and have BIG roles in this Toy Story sequel. Smart, sarcastic, funny – the sheep are the unsung heroes of this film. We even finally learn all of their names! Check out this clip (Yes, I know it’s a Giggle McDimples clip) to see the 3 sheep in action!
Empowering A New Generation of Kids
Demure and feminine to fearless and emboldened, this vintage porcelain doll is finally up with the times. And with a goal of empowering future Toy Story lovers, Bo Peep is more than just a toy. She’s a super hero.
She’s very relatable. She’s feminine but nobody’s fool. And I think little girls are empowered by that. The world is moving that way and I think Bo gives it a nice shove in that direction.
I think it’s fantastic for young women and young boys to see this. This is what a woman is and to young girls, this is what a woman can be, and is. I’m just thrilled to voice those qualities. It is such a privilege when you’re giving positive messages to especially children.
Even though this isn’t a superhero movie, her super powers are her heart and her courage. And I think that’s the greatest super powers of all.
Sitting with this Toy Story legend, this Toy Story 4 Annie Potts interview was full of wonderful flashbacks, history and excitement. You can tell that she truly believes in her character, loves her dearly, and is forever a part of who Annie Potts is today. Just meeting Annie Potts was a thrill of a lifetime. And for this mom raising a strong empowered daughter, she will forever be Bo Peep.
At 66 years old, Annie Potts embodies a strong, independent woman. And I couldn’t help but notice that Pixar carefully chose to bring Annie Potts back into the Toy Story fold AFTER she had “lived” her life – similarly like Bo Peep. Life changes you. Evolves your character. New perspective. New outlook. New Bo. But deep down, she also embodies those wonderful nuances that we loved from day 1 of the original Toy Story.
Don’t be fooled. Bo Peep is 100% kick-@$$ amazing. And you’re going to fall in love with her all over again in Toy Story 4.
She ain’t just tending sheep. Look for an all-new Bo Peep in Toy Story 4, now in theaters everywhere.
