My husband loves pork chops. Whenever fall comes around, he’s begging me for this Braised Pork Chops with Apples & Sweet Potatoes Recipe. Ok, maybe don’t go and look at it. This was one of my first blog recipes ever…and the pictures certainly need an upgrade.
As much as he loves this meal, it’s a PAIN in the bum to make. Lots of wasted time peeling, dicing, stove top cooking and baking in the oven — it’s no wonder why I would drag my feet to make one of his favorite dishes.
So I had to make a 21st century upgrade to the dish — aka the busy mom version. I kept the moistness of the pork chops intact, as everything simmers in sweet apple heaven. Getting the kids to eat this meal? Not a problem. Ready to make your winning gourmet meal for the busy mom (aka throwing a bunch of stuff in a pot and pushing the on button)? Let’s do this.
Don’t forget the crock pot liner!

Does the sliced onion go on the bottom with the apples and potatoes or do they go on top?
Rae – I did on top and bottom to evenly flavor both 🙂
Looks delicious! Just wondering if you could sub in normal potatoes for this recipe?
Hi Alison, I bet you could! The recipe would be a little sweet for regular potatoes though with the apple cider mixture. Just keep that in mind

So I have a lot of juice/broth left over in the pot. What should I do with it?! I can’t let it go to waste.
I recommend saving and reusing for a crockpot roast! Perfect fall seasoning
Awesome thank you!!
Oh I saved this recipe, and will be serving it up. It looks so delicious and easy to make.
Think i could use something besides Apple juice? I try not to have that much sugar.
Water?
Making this for a second time, I use 3 large pork chops instead of 6 small but they come out so good. Definitely worth making for anyone debating 🙂
Perfect fall recipe! I’ve done apples with pork chops or chicken before. And we all love sweet potatoes! One question when do you add the sliced onion? It’s listed in the ingredients but never mentions them in the recipe lol. I just layered some slices on top of the chops.
Sorry about that! It goes in the bottom with the sweet potatoes and apples. I just updated the recipe. Thank you!
Thanks! It worked out on top, because my husband and 3 yr old aren’t fond of onions so they were easily picked off. Loved this! The pork chops were just fall-apart-tender!
