Best Spinach Appetizer Recipe | Mom’s Spinach Crescents
I don’t often use the word “Best” in any of my posts. It’s a word saved for special occasions. And this is definitely one.
The Best Spinach Appetizer Recipe is a 20+ year family recipe that has been passed down, loved on, eaten and requested more times than my belly can remember. My Mom’s Spinach Crescents is one of the most beloved recipes of my childhood. And now as a parent myself, I can appreciate a family recipe like this one. Plus, any chance I can get my kids to willingly eat veggies, I know I have a winner.
So here it is in all of it’s cheesy, delicious, vegetarian glory, Mom’s Spinach Crescent Rolls.
So, no joke. This recipe is da-bomb. And seriously it is the best spinach appetizer I have eaten to date.
The secret is in the mix. This easy Spinach Appetizer is the perfect crowd pleaser dish. It with only a few ingredients, you’ll have your guests eating them all up in no time! And I love that it’s also vegetarian friendly. My mom has been a vegetarian for years, but this appetizer doesn’t have me missing the meat.
Ingredients:
- (1) 10 oz. package of frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained well.
- 1/2 lb. of Velveeta cheese
- 1 TSP. fresh chopped garlic
- 1/4 C of Italian Breadcrumbs
- (2) 8 oz. cans of Crescent Rolls (we use Pillsbury)
- Cooking Spray
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. In large saucepan, spray inside with cooking spray (including the sides). Melt Velveeta cheese and garlic over low heat until smooth. Stir in spinach until mixed well. Add breadcrumbs and stir until well-blended. Remove from heat.
3. Open 1 can of crescents rolls, separate the triangles. (I put the can in the freezer for a few minutes for a firmer dough). Using a butter knife, cut each triangle length-wise in half.
4. Spoon a heaping teaspoon of the spinach mixture on the widest part of a crescent triangle. Roll up.
5. Repeat for all dough triangles, including 2nd can of crescent rolls.
6. Place spinach crescents on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 11-13 minutes or until golden brown.

I won’t lie. I normally double the batch because these little bites go do quickly! And with a 2 year old and picky 6 year old also gobbling these things down, I have no problems making this dish for every party. My kids willingly eating veggies? Win-Win! It’s no wonder it’s such a hit at our family get-togethers. I love this appetizer for summer time, especially with all of the fun cookouts! The bright green spinach makes a great addition to your family BBQ. Want to change it up? You could also add some fresh bacon bits in there for a crunch. But I really think you’ll love the non-meat version too.

Those look yummy… I can imagine them with a great ranch or guacamole dipping sauce. Kids always seem to like things they can dip or add sauce to it.

What a yummy recipe. The kids can even psyche themselves out with the mantra that baked spinach is way better than boiled or raw spinach.
