Spinach and Artichoke Calzones with Sausage Recipe

- 15 oz. of Italian Sausage browned and drained
- 3 cups fresh spinach chopped
- 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup of Bertolli Riserva Asiago & Artichoke Sauce + extra for dipping
- 2 11 oz. refrigerated thin pizza crusts
- 1 TSP of Milk
- Sprinkle Parmesan Cheese
- Flour
- Cooking Spray
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

- On a floured surface, unroll one pizza crust. Cut into 4 equal rectangles.
- In lower left hand corner of one of the pizza crust rectangles, place 1-2 heaping tablespoons of the sausage mixture. Take the upper right hand corner of the crust and fold diagonally down to the lower left hand corner.

- Repeat for the other 3 rectangles.
- Unroll second pizza crust and repeat steps until all 8 calzones are made.
- Place calzones onto sprayed cookie sheets.
- Brush on thin layer of milk to the tops of each calzone.
- Top with Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in oven for 18 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve with side of sauce.
What’s the key to a delicious calzone? The sauce, of course! Perfect for filling, perfect for dipping, a calzone sauce can make or break your meal. So with these 4 calzone experts in the house, I don’t settle for just any “plain ole sauce.” I need quality. But this mom doesn’t have time to whip up a batch of homemade between busy schedules. This recipe calls for Bertolli Riserva Asiago & Artichoke Sauce.
A perfect blend of spices, cheese, plus lots and lots of artichokes inside, makes this sauce a winner. It tastes just like homemade! A perfect addition to an already delicious sausage and spinach calzone recipe, I loved how my kids gobbled up an extra helping of delicious veggies in this recipe. YUM!

I’m a sauce minimalist when it comes to calzones, pizza and even pasta. I like just enough to cover, but not swimming in it…
