Self-Care Tips for Moms
Spending more time at home has made me appreciate the little things in life. We have our love, our health, our smiles and our laughter to keep us going. The world has blessed our family with more quality time to spend together. We’re saving by staying home, and are still being able to work. We have technology to keep us connected, to buy our groceries, even to keep us entertained.
The world has hit the pause button. But then why do I feel so overwhelmed?
In these slower, more appreciative days, I didn’t realize how much I missed my solitude until we were all home 24/7. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family. But there’s a difference between loving my family and loving myself.
Motherhood is hard enough as it is. I can only imagine how much harder these days are with little ones underfoot. Are you taking the time to practice self-care during quarantine? In this season of parenting, it’s important, now more than ever to take time for you. But if you struggled to practice self-care before all of this (um hello, me!), I can empathize with how hard it is to make time for you. But self-care doesn’t have to be hard, expensive, or time consuming. Here’s how I’ve been practicing self-care these days, and how simple little upgrades have made a huge difference in my social distancing days.
Understand That Self-Care During This Season Is Vital
We are going through a life experience unlike anything else in the world. And yes, it’s overwhelming, confusing, upsetting and humbling to watch our lives in a stir-crazy standstill. But even with social distancing, self-care is not only necessary for sanity, it’s vital to our survival.
Say No to Excuses
I am my own biggest obstacle when it comes to my life. I’m constantly making excuses why I can’t practice self-care. I don’t have the time. I’m not worthy of it. I’m too busy. But remember what I said above? This is an unprecedented time that no one has ever experienced before – but we are all experiencing together now. If there’s any time in life to take care of yourself, this is it. We need to stop making excuses and realize that there is ALWAYS time for self-care.
The whole world has hit the pause button. And time is available, now more than ever. Whether it’s early in the morning before the kids get up, a few minutes in the afternoon when they’re having some downtime or in the evening after your kids have gone to bed, you have NO EXCUSE to not make time every single day for you. Find the time, daily.

Indulge, Guilt-Free
Never underestimate the power of the reset button. I joke with my family that every day should technically be Mother’s Day. And with a little daily pampering, I can extend that Mother’s Day feeling just a little longer.
Some of my favorite ways to self-care at home during quarantine:
- Prayer and meditation
- Drinking a cup of coffee alone
- Taking a nap
- Reading a book
- Soaking in a warm bath, with my favorite Dove products
- Eating a cheese plate or a sweet treat
- Exercising
- Dressing fancy, just because
- Having an in-home spa day
- Styling my hair
- Putting on a little makeup
It seems frivolous, but I feel so much better about myself with a little bit of makeup, whether it’s a bright gloss, or instant face-lifting mascara. Q-tips are my go-to beauty hack tool when I’m getting ready for the day. Whether it’s smudging a little eye shadow, fixing my eyeliner, maximizing my foundation uses, or creating the perfect lip pout, I keep Q-tips nearby to help enhance my daily pampering.
Come Out a Better YOU
Time, even though slowed considerably right now, is still valuable. And the time that you spend on your well-being is so important during this season of our lives. Motherhood is hard as it is. I can empathize with how much more stressful it is for moms under these conditions.
The point of self-care is to invest in yourself so that you can be a better you. Self-care allows me to be a better mom, a better teacher, a better wife…basically a better human being. And when we all come out on the other side of this, I need to know that I haven’t lost myself in the process – but instead became a stronger, more loving, more passionate version of me. These self-care tips for moms don’t have to be hard, expensive or even time consuming. But they have to give you the opportunity to press the pause button too, and love yourself.
