My Movie Bucket List | 50 Must See Movies In Your Lifetime
It’s the same conversation every time. “Have you seen this movie?” “Nope.” “What?! How could you not have seen this movie? Everyone has seen it!”
In light of yet another sad I-have-not-seen-that-movie” revelation this summer, I have come to the conclusion that I need to invoke a different response. Hence the creation of my movie bucket list and summer challenge. Come shake your head at me as I meekly reveal all of the movies that everyone else in the world has seen but me, and how I plan to remedy the situation with the 50 Must See Movies In Your Lifetime.
The perfect movie bucket list for the summer, these classic must-see films need to be on your list pronto.
Making A Movie Bucket List
Maybe it was a sheltered home life. Maybe I was too busy in college. Maybe I didn’t get a real LOVE for movies until I became a blogger that blogged about movies. But here I am today, finally talking about all of the sad instances where I have yet again missed another classic, all-time-favorite or any other movie that everyone has to see in their lifetime. I hang my head in shame as I admit that I only have seen It’s a Wonderful Life this past year. And with summer here and my love for a good challenge, I couldn’t help but create my movie bucket list. I’m sure this will keep changing and evolving (hoping my fans will keep me up to date on new movies I must see), but the end result is the same. To finally say “Yes, I have seen that movie.”
This post actually came about from a conversation with my husband and brother-in-law. Trying to pick a movie to watch for the 2 couples while our kids were busy taking advantage of summer, we went down yet another path of “Christie hasn’t seen this movie. We have to see it.” So I sat down and wrote out a list (with the help of IMDB, AFI, Rotten Tomatoes and family members) to create this ultimate of ultimates, my movie bucket list. Then I gave myself a challenge. I will watch at least 10 of these movies by the end of the summer. An obtainable goal, if I do say so myself. And with motivation in my pocket, I sat down and finally watched one of the greatest movies of all time. Can you guess which one?
1. Shawshank Redemption – finished as of 6/7. My first movie of the summer and a GOOD one! Loved it!
2. Field of Dreams – finished as of 6/11. Ok, this movie left me with more questions than answers. I get the dad connection thing. But saving the farm? Talking to dead people? Joy riding with James Earl Jones? Definitely an “interesting” movie
4. Any of the Rocky Movies
5. Casablanca
6. Gone with the Wind
7. Citizen Kane
8. Disney’s Up
10. Raging Bull
11. Pulp Fiction
12. Rain Man
13. Alien – though I highly doubt I will ever have the guts to see this one!
14. Monty Python & The Holy Grail
16. Scarface
17. The Labyrinth
18. Cool Hand Luke
19. Fargo
22. Unforgiven
23. Jaws
25. The Graduate
27. The Maltese Falcon
28. Rear Window
30. Inception
34. The Color Purple
35. Interstellar – sadly my husband rented and saw this movie…I fell asleep. Sigh, try again!
36. Goodfellas
38. The Hurt Locker
40. Blade Runner
41. Awakenings
42. 12 Monkeys
44. Dr. Stranglove, Or How I Stopped Worrying and Love the Bomb
45. Philadelphia
46. Dr. Zhivago
49. Caddyshack
50. Ghost
Ok, summer! Bring on the movies!
So after you give me a finger point, head shake, and give me my overdue “I can’t believe she hasn’t seen these movies” talk, what movie would you add to my movie bucket list? Which ones do you dislike? What is one of your favorite movies of all time?
I’m looking forward to the controversy and discussion 🙂

That is a great list. I would add (unless it’s there and I missed it):
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
The Princess Bride
Groundhog Day
Young Frankenstein (and/or Blazing Saddles)
Toy Story (is better than Up) (and /or The Lion King)
The Greatest Showman
Gladiator
Mr. Holland’s Opus
True Grit (either the old one or the new one, both are fantastic)
Silverado
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Dirty Harry
The Terminator
When Harry Met Sally (and/or Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail)
Apollo 13
City Slickers (don’t bother with the sequel)
The Matrix (Matrix Reloaded is good, but then you’d have to watch the last one which is awful)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

I appreciate the add. Most of these I had already seen, which is why they weren’t on the list.
