My Hundred “Food” Journey at Le Cordon Bleu #100FootJourneyEvent

Delicious doesn’t even begin to describe it. As a part of our amazing Disney trip, we got to visit the home of the Hundred-Foot Journey movie inspired recipes, Le Cordon Bleu. As a little girl, I always dreamed of visiting this mecca of food inspiration. The smells, the sounds of a bustling kitchen, the taste where “Every bite takes you home.” Yes, Le Cordon Bleu is where dreams begin and bellies are happy. I certainly felt inspired as soon as I walked in. So what was in store for our group of hungry bloggers?

le-cordon-bleu-tour

We were given a tour of the beautiful Le Cordon Bleu by Lead Chef Instructor Chantel Martinez. Sharing the rich history of the facility and of Le Cordon Bleu, I quickly realized how much tradition is embedded in this place. Everything from the cravats to the height of the chef hat is determined by years and years of rooted kitchen traditions. Large work spaces, knowledgeable chef instructors and future chef proteges all come together to help mold and teach “hungry” students to become world-class creators.

Following our tour, we sampled some amazing appetizers inspired by The Hundred-Foot Journey. Quiche Lorraine, Beef Bouguinon a la Hassan, and a fresh salad greeted our tables. I loved the combination of flavors and the precise presentation on our plates. You could tell we were getting the royal Le Cordon Bleu treatment. But then….it was our turn. We got to roll up our sleeves and get inside the Le Cordon Bleu kitchens ourselves to create a Parisian Mumbai Salad.

Yogurt marinated chicken, freshly baked naan-tons (aka naan croutons), sugar and curry coated nuts, fresh mango and apple slices, and our very own vinaigrette dressing sat upon fresh greens. I know, sounds amazing right? And with the Le Cordon Bleu chefs giving us directions and helping with our creations, I certainly felt like I was one of the culinary geniuses! I even got complimented on my knife skills (take that, husband!).

What do you think of my resulting dish? Not bad for a novice 🙂 I love the Indian spice infusion in this dish. Cooking this dish definitely reminded me of how much fun it is to cook at home. With The Hundred-Foot Journey’s theme of “Every bite takes you home,” I instantly think of the heart and soul of the food I loved growing up. My grandmother’s cooking takes me home to my childhood. Warm and fresh Japanese ramen soup, bologna sandwich cut on a diagonal, and homemade Japanese sticky rice would greet me every day.

It was awesome to be a cook for the day at the Le Cordon Bleu Los Angeles. Le Cordon Bleu is filled with passion, heart and soul that goes into these chefs’ cooking.  Spoiled with a personalized cooking session, tour and amazing food, what better way to celebrate the release of The Hundred-Foot Journey movie!

I just saw the preview to this yesterday and it looks like such a fun movie. I bet it was so cool to see that kitchen! While I think I’m a good cook as long as I have a recipe in front of me I have always admired people that can go in the kitchen throw stuff together and it come out incredible!
