Advocare diet review

New Year New Lifestyle | Why My First Diet Was Advocare

The New Year is on the horizon. 2015. Have you made your goals yet?

This year has been a year of firsts for me, one of the biggest being my first ever diet. Yes, you heard me right. I completed my first ever weight loss challenge. My motivation? Not buying new pants. There’s definitely quite a few factors that went into my transformation this year, and it’s all thanks to AdvoCare. Why was AdvoCare my first diet choice? Check out my journey, what I learned about AdvoCare, what I learned about me, and how much a little Asian can lose in 24 days.

Advocare start

I really have been blessed. Good Asian genes. A ridiculous metabolism. A petite 5’1″ frame. Not a wrinkle in sight. And what’s a fat roll? I didn’t understand or could empathize with those that were constantly dieting, exercising like crazy and still not able to meet their goals.

But then I had two kids. After the first kid and a pant size up, I blamed it on expanding hip bones. A little more exercise, and I was back to my pre-baby weight in no time. But then I had my daughter. Another pant size up and this time, exercise was not melting off the baby weight as I had hoped. This “chicken” doesn’t have as much pep as the first baby. It took months to realize that the good genes and fab metabolism were no longer in my favor. Age, time and responsibilities against me, I was losing myself and my happiness.

The breaking point? Pulling out the jeans. I couldn’t get them to close. And I refused to buy a larger pair. So something had to give. I was either going to “let myself go” down that slippery expanding mom slope and focus on me in a few years….or do something NOW.

So I chose AdvoCare. There’s 6 things I learned on my AdvoCare weight loss journey.

How to advocare

1. Losing Weight Is NOT the AdvoCare Definition

AdvoCare is more than a diet or losing weight. I know that most diets will say that, but there’s few that focus on more than JUST food. Advocare is the stepping stone to a new lifestyle. In 24 days, you’re NOT focused on just food, but reprogramming your body’s digestive system, retraining your brain, and rescheduling your time.

Advocare gives you so many other important aspects to focus on that you’re too busy to even think about food. And that’s exactly what this overthinking Type-A mom needed. Because I knew if I only focused on what “I Can’t,” I would have been folded up in a fetal position with a doughnut in hand after Day 1. Here’s what The Advocare 24 Day Challenge is in the Christie I-have-never-done-a-diet-in-my-life version:

  • 24 day commitment – 24 days is what you need to complete your weight loss journey. No cheating here. Every day counts
  • A schedule – For someone that used to eat “whenever the heck I wanted,” this regimen is very time oriented. Eating at certain times. Taking pills at certain times. Drinking at certain times. It can be a bit overwhelming if you’ve never dieted on a time schedule like AdvoCare. But this schedule SAVED me. I could focus on the schedule and not the food. I could think about what pills I had to take next and not about being hungry. I needed this schedule to keep me on track.
  • Supplements, an army of them – For a person that was taking maybe a multi-vitamin a day, this may shock you. Pills, and a lot of them. And these pills were strict. A tight schedule included, these miracle pills were incredibly helpful for the journey ahead.
  • Clean eating – The 2 words sound scary together, but in actuality, these words ended up being more freeing than restrictive. As natural as possible, your new eating plan focuses on quite of a bit of the food crazes that are already on cue. Paleo, clean, healthy, low carb, no sugar.

2. Because Day 5, I Cried

I was told prior to starting this diet. It can get overwhelming. The supplements, interrupting your usual busy mom schedule, the boredom with your food. But breaking down that day was the best thing for me. I realized how tightly I was clinging to food. My relationship with food was so emotional, and it made me cry right on my kitchen floor. I wanted to give up. But I couldn’t. I needed to do this for ME.

3. The Cleanse. Enough Said

10 Days. It’ll be the BEST 10 days of your diet. This is where the magic happened. I was losing 1/2 a pound to a 1 pound a day. And it felt GREAT! The 10 days of cleansing (aka lots of pills, water, and flushing out your digestive system), is definitely the most attractive part of the AdvoCare diet.

The combination of cleansing pills, new eating plan and lots of water really reprogram your body on how to process, digest and use food to the best of your body’s ability. AdvoCare is so different in that you’re not just shocking your system into a diet for a little while and then back to your exact lifestyle. After 10 days, you slowly reintroduce reality back into your life. You gradually let go of your safety net. You start your new journey.

4. Because I Was Never Hungry

Reflecting back on my AdvoCare journey, there was not a day that I was actually hungry. Sure, I was bored. I was craving things. But my body was actually never hungry for food. I certainly felt fine if not full at every moment in my day. I had pills to help me feel full. I was consuming something every few hours of the day. I was focused on something else. Spark is definitely the life saver in this diet. I looked forward to getting my refreshing drink and energy boost everyday! And those meal replacement shakes are AMAZING!

5. Because I Had a Great Coach

The biggest thing about AdvoCare is that you’re NOT going through the journey alone. My AdvoCare Coach has been there, done that. Checking on me, providing helpful tips, food suggestions and answering my billions of questions, my sister-in-law, Elaina, was with me every step of the way.

Advocare finish

6. Because I’m Stronger Than Ever

24 days. In that time, I lost a total of 7 pounds. That’s right, my petite 5’1″ frame went from 119.8 to 112.8. That’s only 4 pounds away from my pre-baby weight….my first baby, that is. And I lost a total of 7 inches. So you bet, I didn’t buy new jeans. It was the BEST money that I’ve saved ever.

Advocare before after photos

If you would have asked me to post half naked pictures of myself on the internet weeks ago, I would have laughed in your face. An Asian girl with rolls would have never EVER been a part of this blog. But now, I show them off proudly. So here’s the proof. Nope, these pictures are NOT edited or touched up. And yes, you can ask my family and friends if they saw the change. My AdvoCare journey is 100% real.

Advocare review

This is my journey. This is my motivation. This is my road to a healthy, happy me. It all happened because of AdvoCare. 24 days and my first diet in the books, I couldn’t have been prouder than the final day of my journey. I did it. I lost more weight that I had ever hoped for, I gained my self-confidence and personal happiness, and I learned so much about myself. And hey, now I don’t have to suck in for pictures.

You look incredible. My poor body hates me since having #6. It hasn’t been too kind and I’ve been trying. This sounds great!

This sounds like a great program if you can focus. I’m afraid that I’d cry on day 3, 5, 8, etc. It just seems dramatic.

I love Advocare. I started using Advocare with their Catalyst product, as I was having some muscle fatigue with workouts. Then did a 24 day challenge (without shakes) and had great results. Advocare makes great products!
