I’m so blessed. I just finished my first fashion photo shoot with the amazing Jeanette of J’s Everyday Fashion and Jheanell of Belle Jheanell. dressbarn has just released their latest collection, DRESSBAR for a fresh take on stylish clothing for women. A photo shoot showcasing Dressbarn’s ability to make fabulous and affordable dresses for petites, misses and plus size women…sounded like an amazing idea to me. 3 dresses later the rest is history.
I honestly didn’t even know that dressbarn was still around. I had memories of being dragged around that store with my mom when I was little. I didn’t remember those dresses being memorable or cute. So much to my surprise, dressbarn was releasing their latest venture, DRESSBAR. I hoped there would be some FUN to go with that name. And shockingly there was. Beautiful, fun, flirty and sexy dresses….yes, even for mom….all under $100. And bonus, DRESSBAR was taking care of petites! This 5 foot 1 inch tall mom could wear a dress that fits a small frame. So what dresses, you ask? Insert fun here!
MIXT by Heidi Weisel Floral Pocket Dress, $68
Petite / Misses / Plus
Of the 3, this was probably the most unflattering dress across the board. I just didn’t like how this dress hung on my curvy petite frame. A stretchy and forgiving sweater top connects with a full but not quite A-line dressy skirt. Hanging below the knees, on all of us, I felt much much much shorter than my 5 foot 1 frame. But the skirt fabric was beautiful, and my dress selling point, aka POCKETS were included. Plus any excuse to pull out my Cinderella Red Carpet shoes definitely boosted the dress from casual to dressy.
Lace Print Sheath Dress, $48
Petite / Misses / Plus
Ugh, pink. The bane of my existence. But when a beautiful, talented and amazing fashion blogger says pink dress, you put it on. And I had to say, this was the MOST shocking dress of the day. I looked…good. And yes, that was hard to say! A curve accentuating dress, this one definitely fit me well, even for this tummy-conscious mom. Fitting but not clingy, this dress hugged and accentuated my curves in a very tasteful way. Showing dressbarn’s support for Breast Cancer Awareness month, this dress says pretty.
Floral Fit-and-Flare Dress, $54
Petite / Misses / Plus
I’m a sucker for a cute red dress. Something about that color that brings out my fierce mode. Throw in a high empire waist (no sucking in my tummy required!), a beautiful A-line skirt, POCKETS (LOVE pockets on dresses), and a classy design, I loved this dress. The thicker material allowed for a full skirt, and even with a small chest, the top portion fit snugly. This dress definitely fit all of us well.

I love how you showed all three body types in the same dress. They really look good on all sizes and shapes. I buy a lot of my blouses from Dress Barn – they look nice and are not pricey.

So glad you posted this; we have a Dress Barn but because it’s on the other side of town I forget all about it. This just reminded me of it and I’m in need of new work clothes. my coworker has the pretty floral dress and my daughter’s teacher has the lace print one I think 🙂

I love the pink lace sheath dress. We have a Dress Barn at our local outlet mall. Like you, I remember shopping there with my Mom and Grandma so I never go in. Definitely checking it out soon! Who knew they had such cute dresses?

These are nice dresses and they look great on you. I think I read a fairly recent article Dressbarn is going more upscale. I’m a petite and want to check it out!
