Defeating bad guys. Super hero powers. Amazing technology. And one sweaty boy. This past weekend, I became the coolest mom ever. We celebrated my son’s 7th birthday in a BIG way, with the new Disney Playmation. A video game turned physical, this is the toy that kids AND parents have been waiting for. I have been in awe of Disney Playmation since our live demo at the D23 Expo. Fully against raising a couch potato son, there’s been something missing from video game play all of these years. “Physical imagination.” Kids screaming in excitement, rolling on the floor action, use of a child’s creativity and sweaty gross boy goodness…yes, exactly what a 7 year old needs. Playmation brings that all to life with the help of their favorite super hero friends. And my son couldn’t have been more excited to join the Avengers in the ultimate play experience.

How It Works

Disney Playmation combines what your child loves about a toy and a video game in one. 3 main pieces of equipment interact separately and together to create a virtual universe, all inside your child’s imagination. Missions (aka instructions) work together with your equipment and child’s imagination to guide through play time or use the free play option to how them the freedom to just play.

There’s the repulser gear, or what I like to call the handheld “controller.” Built to be like Iron Man’s glove or Hulk’s fists, these controllers are uber cool. All sounds effects, light technology and mission instructions happen right here. The voice of Jarvis guides your kids through mini adventures of discovery, exploration and play…real play. Buttons, triggers and real lights and sounds of Iron Man are built in to your glove as you aim high to defeat your enemies.

2 power activators are included as your “targets” for your missions. Blasting away bad guys and helping fellow Avengers, the power activators also include surrounding sounds to enhance imagination and excitement. Interchangeable action figures enhance play time as your super hero kid interacts with their favorite Marvel characters. As your child progresses through their missions, they earn points just like a game. Level ups, new special moves and even a FREE app help you and your child to gain access to new missions, features and more.

Gaming Meets Imagination…Again

I am guilty too. As a parent, I highly underestimate the ability of my son’s imagination. So focused on the literal and the now, I forget how much his child imagination can allow him to be more….much more. Kids are imagining again and this time in sync with technology. Running over rough terrain, dodging enemy fire and blasting the perfect Iron Man Palm Strike attack are all included in your Disney Playmation experience. And it even includes your own theme music!

Endless Possibility and Portability

Video games indoors? Not anymore! The possibilities are endless with the new Disney Playmation. This fully portable system brings the super hero play outdoors too! Gear and activators can be moved anywhere within a 40 foot range of each other indoors and out. Want to duck behind trees? Lookout from atop your favorite playground equipment?

Who doesn’t want to save the planet from ultimate destruction, defeat the evil villains and win the epic battle? Exactly. Even my 2 year old wants to be “Superman Princess” when she grows up. Now the new Playmation does require batteries, and lots of them. 12 to be exact. But for the amazing sounds, laser accuracy and ability to transport play outside, I think this is well worth the investment. Since acquiring this new set, my son literally asks every single day to play. Real Iron Man sounds, actions and victory dances all take place right here. And winning happens not just for my son but for me too. He’s growing up so fast, but his childlike imagination lives on thanks to new Disney Playmation. And now that fall weather has arrived, you bet that we are taking advantage of outdoors play as much as possible!
