How do you conquer your fear of the dance floor? You have a Dancing with the Stars Dance Lesson! Disney & ABC invited me out to LA for this private Dancing with the Stars Dance Lesson. All opinions are my own. Travel and accommodations were covered.
What NOT to Do During a Dancing with the Stars Dance Lesson + Video
I’m standing up in the middle of the room, facing a full audience, with a choreographed dance that we had just learned about 15 minutes ago. I’m drenched in sweat. I hear the words “And 5, 6, 7, 8!” and stand completely frozen in my spot. No, this is not a dream. This is my Dancing with the Stars Dance Lesson. That’s right, we had a private dance lesson with the familiar faces of Dancing with the Stars – and it was absolutely terrifying. And so much fun. Take a cue from me, here’s exactly what you should NOT do during a Dancing with the Stars Dance Lesson. And oh yes, all incriminating video of me is included.
Take the Dancing with the Stars Dance Troupe for Granted
We see these dancers all of the time on the show. Usually the backup dancers, special performance dancers and subs for injured dancers (like Alan Bersten for Maks during this season), it’s easy to glance over this group of talented individuals. But don’t do what I did. The moment that we met Alan Bersten, Brittany Cherry, Britt Stewart, Hayley Erbert, Artur Adamski and Brandon Armstrong, I knew that we were in good hands. Years of dance experience, features on many amazing movies and shows (such as High School Musical and So You Think You Can Dance) and full of energy, the Dance Troupe is the foundation of the show you know and love. Get to know these dancers, because many of them become the main dancers of the show. And then you can say – I knew them when.
Wear the Wrong Shoes, For Starters
And wrong clothes…and forget a hair tie. I’m a hot mess, literally. I must have blacked out during that whole “dress comfortably” speech – because I was only focused on one thing – wearing my hot orange suede flats. Horrible decision when you’re entering a ballroom class, by the way. Don’t do it.
Believe When They Said That It Would Be “Easy”
Knowing the interviews and schedule we had for the day, I had one thing in mind. Look cute for pictures.” I curled my hair. I put on makeup. I even wore jeans – because I remember them saying “you won’t even break a sweat.” Ok, perfect. A nice easy dance lesson. I was thinking 10 minutes – 15 tops and we’d be heading back to the buses. An hour later, I’m drenched head to toe in sweat. This wasn’t a dance lesson – this was a full-on workout. Between blushing and dancing, I think I burned enough calories to cover my meals this trip.
Think That I Could Sit This One Out
“We’re going to break out into groups and have a little friendly competition.” Um…what?! So much for hiding in the back of the class. Not only are we now dancing with our peers, but also in front of them. How does one overcome social anxiety and depression? When Disney says dance, you dance! Thank goodness we had Britt Stewart leading our group. She was a fantastic and very patient teacher!
