ABC’s The Rookie Set Tour | What NOT to Do When You Meet Nathan Fillion
I don’t get star struck too often. In fact, I’m a lurker – in the back, just casually Paparazzi photo snapping with my phone. But I just met one of my favorite actors ever. Smart, quick witted and extremely talented, Nathan Fillion is the epitome of the dude I’d want to chat with over a good meal. You know him for Firefly, Castle, Cars 3 and maybe even a Guardians of the Galaxy cameo. But now you can get “up close and personal” with Nathan Fillion, who plays “John Nolan” in and ABC’s newest show, The Rookie.
Don’t let the drama label fool you. This show is classic Nathan Fillion sarcasm and wit. Get a behind-the-scenes look on my ABC’s The Rookie Set Tour and find out why I almost died of embarrassment during my moment with Nathan Fillion.
I admit that visiting a live TV set is unlike any other experience. The thought of entire show seasons being filmed inside of a glorified warehouse – it’s amazing what a little TV magic can inspire. Building an L.A. police station from scratch is no easy feat, and just seeing the intricate architecture of wood beams, special lighting and the endless amount of behind-the-scenes crew, I have so much respect for how much “WORK” goes into making an ABC drama like The Rookie come to life.
Everything happened so fast that day. We were late getting in. They were filming scenes. Stars walking in and out. People running chaotically around the set. Silence so deafening you could hear a pin drop. Laughter so loud, you could hear it in the next building.

Mercedes Mason, who plays “Zoe Anderson,” was our personal tour guide. And she looked fabulous, even on her day off from filming. She gave us a quick walk through of the iconic L.A. police station set and it was amazing.
Walls filled with little details.
We even got to sit in Captain Zoe Anderson’s office chair, the same chair that has witnessed a good Nathan Fillion/John Nolan scolding or two. And in her “house,” she immediately took on her very serious role. I obviously didn’t get the memo.
But the highlight had to be as we entered into the lobby of ABC’s The Rookie. So many great scenes played out right here. The bright lights, the bustle of people, and sitting in his chair in the middle of the lobby was the Nathan Fillion himself. “He’s so much taller in person!” I thought to myself as I snapped a few memorable shots like these with co-star Afton Williamson, who plays “Talia Bishop.” “And handsomer too,” I also thought to myself. I was blushing – I had to have been.

And as we heard the words “group photo,” I went to turn around and literally bumped into the chest of Nathan Fillion. I hit the body cam attachment on his uniform and almost went toppling over. He was RIGHT in my face, y’all! So as I barely uttered out the word “sorry,” he grabbed my shoulder and flashed his brilliant Nathan Fillion smile. And my moment, this photo right here – was all because I had two left feet during ABC’s The Rookie set tour. Way to go, Christie.
Way to go.
As if I wasn’t a huge fan of ABC’s The Rookie already, I became 100% committed that day to watching the whole season. Because Nathan Fillion, y’all. Haven’t found out what all of the Nathan Fillion hype is about yet? Catch up and watch The Rookie Season One on Tuesdays at 10|9c on ABC. You can also watch via streaming (ABC app/ ABC.com/ Hulu) and on demand.
Tonight’s episode is “The Hawke” – Nolan and the team must help capture a cop and his former mentor from the academy after he becomes a fugitive following an assault. Meanwhile, Officer Tim Bradford needs Officer Lucy Chen to learn to predict the moves of criminals in order to capture them.

Jim Freeman says
I love this show. I was interested, at first, because my wife and I loved Castle and were curious to see what direction Nathan Fillion would go on another show. The Rookie has a good cast too and great chemistry .I think the storylines are interesting and although we started watching , because of Nathan Fillion, it has has much more to offer. This ensemble works well together and should become even better as it progresses.

I think so too! I love the contrasting character personalities and rooting for the underdog!
Marcella Christiansen says
