Easy Christmas Book Tree
It’s never too late to start a new family Christmas tradition. We all have family traditions, especially during the holiday times. But every year, I find the chaos of the holiday season just completely overwhelming. Is it just me or does time seem to move even faster as soon as Thanksgiving is over?
(Or am I getting older and slower? Never mind, let’s not go there.)
At ages 9 and 4, this is the prime year for my kids to enjoy Christmas at its fullest. I wanted to find a way for our family to slow down and really enjoy the whole season – without technology or busy schedules or work getting in the way. And that’s when a brilliant idea came to my head – a Christmas Book Tree Advent calendar. We’d countdown to Christmas together, telling stories, snuggling on the couch all while creating a brand new family Christmas tradition that fit our family’s needs. But brilliance also came with an “Oh poop!” moment – I had an Advent calendar idea that needed to go into action on December 1st! But don’t let the busyness of the holidays stop you from starting your new family Christmas tradition. Find out how a little creativity, a great deal on #HallmarkatWalgreens and some Christmas cheer can help you create your own Easy Christmas Book Tree – for many years of memories to come.
A New Family Christmas Tradition Begins with Hallmark
I’ll admit, deciding to create our own Christmas Book Tree came with a dose of panic the day after Thanksgiving. It’s one thing to have all of the presents ready to go on December 25th. It’s a whole other beast to start a brand new family tradition on December 1st. ‘What was I thinking?’ Thankfully, I had a whole stack of Christmas books ready to go (thank you, grandparents!) and a Christmas game plan. I made a quick run into my local Walgreens to grab the rest of our Christmas Book Tree essentials. I knew that I needed a serious stock of holiday wrapping paper, and score! Hallmark gift wrap is Buy 2 Get 1 Free through 12/2. I grabbed this festive hologram gift wrap to really make our Christmas Book Tree twinkle. But somehow really cool gift wrap wasn’t enough.
That’s when I browsed the cards section and found exactly what our new family tradition needed, Hallmark Signature cards. I wanted to make sure that they had a momento to remember our new Christmas tradition. So I picked out a card for each child – a beautiful 3D train card for my son (he’s always LOVED trains, especially under Christmas trees),
and an adorable Christmas finger puppet card for my daughter. She just loves little finger puppets, and these are removeable!
As soon as I got home, I made a point to write a personalized message to each child – telling them how much I loved them, telling them why this new family tradition was going to be so special, and most importantly telling them of how these memories will last forever. I’ll admit, I got a little misty-eyed writing these cards. I knew that it was the beginning of something beautiful for our little family of four.
Easy Christmas Book Tree
But our new family tradition wouldn’t be complete without the tree. So here’s how I tackled this Easy Christmas Book Tree.
What You Will Need
- 24 Christmas/holiday themed books (Using a variety of sizes from teeny to large work best, as well as thicker hardcover books versus paperback.)
- Gift wrap, like this special hologram Hallmark gift wrap I picked up at my local Walgreens
- Small Christmas tree topper/bow
- Small string of lights
- Scissors
- Tape
Directions
- Gift wrap your books. I loved using different themed paper to bring color into our book tree. The Hallmark hologram holiday paper really brought the sparkle too, just like twinkling Christmas lights!
- Stack your wrapped books from largest at the bottom to smallest on top. I used different angles to give our book tree more dimension.
- Top your Christmas Book Tree with your topper/bow.
- Add even more holiday cheer by stringing a small set of Christmas lights around your Christmas Book Tree. Now here’s where the real fun begins.
- Beginning December 1st, have your kids unwrap one book to read together as a family. (Make it even more special by adding a personalized card for each child!)
- Continue to have them unwrap one book every day, right up until Christmas!
Creating New Christmas Memories
Just like an Advent calendar, my kids can now enjoy counting down to Christmas with our new family tradition. Reading Christmas stories together snuggled up on the couch, getting into the holiday spirit, and building up the excitement around the season – this is exactly what family traditions are made of. Don’t let the busyness of the season stop you from starting a new family Christmas tradition. Head into your local Walgreens now to grab your Christmas Book Tree essentials, including a great deal on Hallmark gift wrap and beautiful Hallmark Signature cards for Christmas.
Christmas is more than just one day to connect with our family – it’s a spirit of love that continues throughout the year. And now with our Christmas Book Tree, we can continue to cherish our family traditions and create new Christmas memories together.
