Disney Pandora for Kids | Parent Guide to The World of Avatar
I wasn’t prepared to walk into Walt Disney World’s Pandora – The World of Avatar. In all honesty, I hadn’t seen the movie. I didn’t know the characters, the land or even what to expect. But I still left that day in absolute awe – that’s the power of Disney.
That got me thinking about all of the kids that felt like me that day – uneasy, out of place, a little skeptical about a world they have never even had a glimpse of. What’s the big deal about the new land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Everything. Come discover Disney Pandora for Kids, a full parent guide to Pandora – The World of Avatar. I’m sharing my 10 best tips to make the most of your family’s visit to Disney’s newest land at Animal Kingdom and why you need to plan a visit pronto.
Pound on the Flaska Reclinata Flower
At the entrance of Pandora your kids will discover a gigantic and oddly beautiful flower. Pound on the open hole of the flower and watch as steam spurts out and welcomes guests into the fully immersive land that is Avatar.
Fly Above Pandora on the Avatar Flight of Passage Ride
This is the ride that everyone is talking about. Possibly the “best ride at Disney World,” the new Flight of Passage simulator ride will immerse your kids in a fast-paced Soarin’ meets Star Tours flight above Pandora. 3D sights, smells (just like Soarin’), sounds and interactive simulation while riding a Banshee beast will certainly give your children a new view of this land.
Your kids will need to be at least 44 inches to ride (about the height of the average 5-6 year old). The diving and fast-paced simulation may be too intense for kids – use caution when taking them on this ride. Child Swap is available as well as FastPasses (but are almost impossible to get. Grab FastPass Tips to snag some possible last minute passes).
Play the Rock Drums
Under the floating mountains you’ll discover a winding set of rock drums. Allow your kids to discover and play these drums as the waterfalls dance and the wildly exotic flowers bloom.
Ride the Na’vi River Journey
Bioluminescence is a big part of Pandora’s rainforests. Everything is grounded in nature, glowing in the dark at night. This second Pandora ride is suitable for all ages, and reminds me of It’s a Small World – in the dark. This slow moving boat ride (about 4 minutes long), is perfect for kids wanting to get a little break from the Florida heat. Keep in mind that this ride is in about 80% darkness (with lots of glowing plants and animals).
Earn New Wilderness Explorers Badges
There are two new Wilderness Explorers Badges to be found in The World of Avatar. Look for two new stations manned with Wilderness Explorer Guides and have your kids earn their new Ecology and Botany Badges. This is a great way to get your kids excited about the land – and a perfect way for little ones to pass the time while family members ride Flight of Passage.
Munch on Exclusive Kid-Friendly Pandora Eats
Worried that the Pandora food will be too exotic for your children? Well Walt Disney World has your kids in mind with exclusive kid-friendly Pandora eats! From Cheeseburger Pods (yes, cheeseburgers wrapped in dough pods – aka bao buns!) to delectable chocolate cake, your kids will love immersing their taste buds in The World of Avatar too!
Shop at Windtraders
This is the only gift shop to be found in Pandora. See the lifelike bust of Neytiri, create a beautiful Na’vi necklace and bring home one-of-a-kind Avatar inspired gifts. The Banshee kites were one of my favorites!
Learn the Na’vi Language
Do your kids love to learn new languages? The World of Avatar is more than just a beautiful land, it’s a whole culture. Get to know Pandora even deeper by learning the Na’vi language. Look for cast members wearing the A.C.E. (Alpha Centauri Expeditions) badges to learn some new phrases.

Experience Pandora at Night
Obviously the biggest draw for a new land at Animal Kingdom is the nighttime experience. See Pandora glow with full-on bioluminescence at night, completely transforming the landscape. See the nighttime musical performance with characters in costume.
Take One-of-a-Kind Disney Photos
Nothing can compare to those priceless Disney photos. The majestic landscapes of floating mountains, exotic flora and beautiful waterfalls make Pandora – The World of Avatar the perfect place to capture your family’s Disney memories. Make sure to snap a few photos of your family during your visit in this amazing land.
Ready for your family’s Walt Disney World vacation? Be sure to include Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Pandora – The World of Avatar in your travel plans. I cannot wait to head back with my family soon and immerse them in dreams, nature, harmony and the unbelievable imagination coming to life.
