Easy Black Bean Soup | Tips for a Heart Healthy Life

It’s easier said than done. I’m going to live a healthier life. It’s the thought that creeps into my mind just about everyday. I’m going to lose weight. I’m going to exercise more. I’m going to eat better.

But then life gets in the way. We’re busy, too busy. We’re stressed, too stressed. We’re fighting for survival from busy jobs, schedules, kids, and husbands… I get you, mom.

But then I was given a different way to approach a healthy life when asked, what is your reason to living a healthier, longer life? Two words: my kids. Today, my why is motivating me to eat healthier, with tips for a heart-healthy life from the American Heart Association, like this Easy Black Bean Soup recipe.

We only have one heart. It’s the very center of our being and the core of our best life moments. And some days, I take that completely for granted. Being adopted, it really hits home. I don’t know my family history. I don’t know if there’s cancer in the family, diabetes, or heart disease. That’s actually pretty scary. Because sometimes I eat what I want. I don’t exercise. I drown myself in stress. And I know it’s not good for my heart, my family or me.

But then, the American Heart Association reminded me that Life Is Why all these things matter. Everyone has a reason for living a healthier, longer life. And the answer was easy for me, my kids are why. My whole look at a healthy living has shifted from what I should do to WHY I should do it. And it’s been life-changing. I exercise more so I can experience more of life’s precious moments with my kids. I turn off my phone and computer to relax and really listen to my kids. And I eat healthier so I can be here longer for my kids.

    Nicely said. 🙂

I never liked black beans until I made the decision to cut as much meat from my diet as possible. I started using more beans in my cooking and I found more tasty recipes. Your soup looks yummy – it’s going in my recipe box!
