Give the Gift of Forever with Florida Prepaid #StartingIsBelieving
Easy Bake Oven. I remember writing many a Christmas letter to Santa as a child, with the Easy Bake Oven at the top of the list. And every year, I’d be so disappointed when that oven never arrived under the tree. I laugh now as an adult. How could I ever have wanted such a toy? Even now as I “bake” with my niece in her Easy Bake Oven, I smile at how frivolous that gift was…and how disgusting the food is.
What Christmas presents do I remember most? No, it wasn’t the toys. In fact, I can barely remember what toys I had received other the years. They were checks. At the time, it was just pieces of paper that I learned to immediately hand over to my parents. “It’s for college,” they would tell me. I didn’t think about those checks again because in my mind, it was gone. I’d never see that money. I’d never use that money to buy that toy I was wanting (perhaps an Easy Bake Oven?). But family from all over the U.S. would faithfully send checks every year for Christmas. And every year, the hand off.
Now as an adult, I know exactly where those checks were going.
To pay for FOREVER.
Those gifts were more than just pieces of paper. I just didn’t realize it. Those checks paid for 4 years at an amazing college where I eventually met the man I fell in love with. Those checks allowed me to marry my husband with no financial debt. Zero. Zilch. Those checks allowed us to buy a house. Those checks paid for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree that I still have today. Those checks paid for a fulfilling 6 years of nursing on a pediatric floor with skills and memories I will never forget. And now those checks continue to bless our lives, as we were able to pay for not one but two college educations for my children.
Give FOREVER This Christmas

This is a great idea. I will have to check into this for my grandchildren. Thank you so much for sharing

What an amazingly thoughtful family you had. I dream of giving my daughter an excellent education and a life begun without the education debt I am still paying for. We started our state’s college plan the month she was born and contribute for our niece and nephew as well. I hope they forgive us in these early years for not sending toys. I know we will be thanked when they’re older. 🙂

What a great story! With our first child arriving in the next week or so we’ve definitely been thinking about how we can enrich his life and not just buy him “stuff”!
