Winter Hair Care Tips for Straight Hair #MoistureCare

I love my straight hair, really I do. Over the years it’s been wonderful to receive compliments for basically good Asian genes. But as much as people may desire the mop of hair on my head, it’s not so pretty when winter hits. Dandruff. Black straight hair + white flakes = a horrific spotlight for all to see. So today, I’m shining a light on how to keep my hair looking it’s best and sharing my top 5 Winter Hair Care Tips for Straight Hair.

Dandruff tips

Believe it or not, Asian hair has texture. I’ve been told time and time again that I have coarse straight hair that needs management and protection. Dandruff and Asian hair don’t mix. The white on black look can really affect my confidence level. And when winter hits (yes, even in Florida) my hair turns into a nightmare.

Here’s the proof that my hair is not 100% of the time pretty, straight and perfect. You can imagine the stares received for having even one white flake sitting on the top of my scalp. But the good thing is, we can fight back! Want that confident scalp to go with your personality? Here’s how to love your hair this winter.

Hair tips hydration

1. Hydrate

Those dandruff flakes are from a dry scalp. So keep yours nourished from the inside out! While the cold dry air may hit during the winter months, make sure that you are still hydrating daily with the recommended 6-8 glasses of water per day.

Winter hair nutrition

2. Nutrition Matters

Don’t think you scalp needs a well balanced diet? Well, think again! Nutrition matters to every part of your body. Keeping your scalp’s natural oils and moisture in require a healthy balance of foods, vitamins and minerals too!

3. Avoid Dry Heat

Cold dry air and hot dry air don’t mix! As much as I love to blow dry and style for a fabulous night out, going for the natural dry, turning your styling tools to a cooler setting, or even allowing your hair to air dry for longer will help keep that dry heat away from your scalp. Think about alternating styling tool days and up-dos to keep the your scalp healthy.

Hair care tips

4. Wash Sparingly

Put down the shampoo! My overly oily hair loves to be washed daily, but my scalp does NOT! Over-washing your hair can lead to further dryness. Consider a shower cap for those off days or a conditioner only wash

Those are great moisturizing ideas. I should definitely drink more water. H&S is always a reliable brand too.

Winter is so hard on my hair. I don’t know if it’s the cold outside or the heater inside, but mine gets pretty dried out. Always happy to hear of ways to try and combat it!

I have been finding my hair dry this winter. I will have to try the Head and Shoulders line for my scalp. I will try skipping a day of washing and see if that helps.
