5 Tips to Let Your True Beauty Shine #BeautyStory

I didn’t have a lot of make up growing up. In fact, I barely knew what it was by the time I entered high school. Back then I would have totally blamed my mom from “shielding me” from the world. But as an adult, I now appreciate what she was trying to tell me. I was beautiful. I didn’t need make up to hide behind and spend hours a day perfecting. I didn’t need a mask of trying to be someone else. She was letting my true beauty shine. You can let your true beauty shine too, with these 5 tips.

1. Smile

There’s a huge difference between a frown and a smile. It sends UBER messages across your visual field. Knowing that my frown face is not only mean but super scary, I am making more of a conscious effort to smile wherever I am, whoever I’m with. Because sending the message of happy is 100x more awesome than one that is sad. So pocket that frown, I will wait.

2. Laugh

When was the last time you had a good belly laugh? You know, the one with tears streaming down your face, and the high pitched hyena sound ending with a good ‘ole snort? Nothing says true beauty like the laughter that comes from that place. Be sure to laugh and laugh often.

3. Love

There’s nothing in the world like it. When you love and love deeply, your very being just radiates that feeling. And when you have that love, hold onto it.

4. Hope

A big character in happiness, hope is that ray of light in all circumstances. Think positive and look to tomorrow. You got this.

5. Be Confident

Know yourself. Be yourself. Love yourself. Be confident in who you are as a person, a mom, a daughter, a sister, a friend and even a stranger.

Share Your #BeautyStory

You know a company that does an amazing job of promoting true beauty? Dove. Dove understands that real beauty is shaped by real women of all different shapes, sizes, and looks. This spring, Dove is leading the charge on yet another empowering campaign, your beauty story. Share who in your life taught you to make Dove part of your beauty routine by using #BeautyStory. It’s a great way to say thanks during this Mother’s Day season to all of the women who helped shape your perception of beauty, and to inspire other women to discover their own.

Check out this inspiring video from Dove and see one family’s inspiring #BeautyStory. It involves four generations of women, and a tradition of passing down one simple beauty secret: the Dove Beauty Bar. “My mom was the one who started this all off, and she passed it along to me and my sister. Then we passed it along to our daughters. So I guess it’s kind of like a family secret.” Beauty really is all in the family 🙂

If I haven’t said it enough lately, I thank my mom so much for showing me that beauty is so much more than make up, hair and clothing. True beauty comes from the soul. My mom inspires my perception of beauty everyday, and I’m so glad that she is a part of my #BeautyStory.

There are so many women who inspire my beauty story! I’d say my biggest influence would be my mom though. She always told me that beauty comes from within.

Having Hope surely is a beauty winner! My beauty story is my grandmother who at 90 years old still had long brown hair and wore her red lipstick every day. So beautiful!
