The First Year Memories | Baby’s 1st Face Plant
First steps. First words. First face plant?
Capturing those priceless milestones in your baby’s first year of life are exciting, beautiful and also…memorable. Sometimes hilariously memorable. With a new baby in tow, it’s exponentially harder to plan a day out with moms. But at 5 months old, my baby was growing right before my eyes. How has she NOT had her first beach trip yet? Insert Florida mom guilt. I was going to make this happen. Friends called. Plans made. We were doing this.
We were feeling pretty accomplished already. 5 kids under the age of 5-years old packed, buckled and driven, we wanted what every mom wants when they go to the beach. A picture to capture the memories of our kids together. What we didn’t expect? To capture that priceless photo that continues to have us giggling year after year. Come experience my baby’s firsts with The First Year Memories.
Lining up 5 children under the age of 5 proved to be challenging. How in the world were we going to get 2 babies to be in a picture? Well, we had the idea to prop them up on a lounge chair. Placing 2 older siblings on either side, we would capture THE photo of our day.
My 4 year old son was holding up my baby girl at the time. A chorus of “awes” were escaping all of our mouths as the moms clicked away. Attention spans waning after 3 seconds, the older kids couldn’t wait to break away and back to fun-in-the-sun.
What I didn’t realize was that my propped up baby had actually slid down to lay her little body against her big brother. He got up and zoomed off. She took a head dive into the sand.
Even more priceless? My friend caught this picture in-action! Needless to say, there were tears – lots of tears as I had to wipe off all of the sand that she had acquired in 1.2 milliseconds.
What I wouldn’t have given to have a pack of WaterWipes on-hand for the baby meltdown aftermath! With durable strength and effective removal without any of the harsh chemicals (only 99.9% Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract), I bet I would have recovered quicker from this mommy blunder. But no, my beautiful 5-month old baby cried hard tears for the rest of our trip. To this day, we still laugh about the time my baby face planted in the sand – passing around the picture for extra giggles.
The truth is, that first year flies by. Somewhere between all of those sleepless nights and crazy schedules and lots of mistakes are beautiful moments that remind us that at the end of the day, it’s the simple things that make parenthood worth every moment. As I wrap up year 2 as a WaterWipes ambassador, I am reminded of how The First Year memories can be simply amazing. Check out the moments in this video!
You are all that your baby really needs. It’s not about the coolest stroller, the latest baby fashions or the newest baby technology. It’s seeing mommy’s face, making your baby giggle, and ultimately forming that everlasting and unconditional love bond. They’re learning. You’re learning (like never let your 4 year old hold up your baby for a picture). We’re all in this together.

Oh, gosh, aomeone even took a picture??? Poor baby!!! That’ll be a family get together story for years to come! BTW, did you know that cornstarch or baby powder will make sand fall right off?

Bahaha!! Omgosh!! Too funny!! Sand is no place to face plant that’s for sure!! My son’s first faceplant was when he tried to use his play mat bars to stand with.
