Talking with the Moms of ABC Family #ABCFamilyEvent

It’s been such a blast reliving my Disney/DreamWorks/ABC Family Los Angeles Trip these past through weeks. I’ve had a blast traveling across the country, hanging with bloggers just like me, and meeting celebrities I would have never ever gotten the chance to encounter. It’s almost bittersweet as I am starting to wrap up my series of “Pinch-Me-I’m-Dreaming” events. We were wrapping up our first full day of interviews when we walked over to an amazing mixer event with the moms of ABC Family. Humbling and awe inspiring, this was one of my favorite moments during my visit. You won’t believe who I met!

Some of my young adult/teen idols were seriously sitting only a few feet away from me. Memories of West Wing, Melrose Place and Charmed all flooded back as we chatted with a glass of wine in hand about life. I couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere. Perfect L.A. weather. Appetizers handed out on silver trays. And being entertained by stories of celebrity moms who are doing the “real life thing.” Marlee Matlin (“Switched at Birth”). Constance Marie (“Switched at Birth), Holly Combs (“Pretty Little Liars”) and Laura Leighton (“Pretty Little Liars”) joined us for a round table, open discussion…and anything was up for grabs!

MARLEE MATLIN

I could reach out and TOUCH Marlee Matlin from the newest ABC Family series, Switched at Birth. She was so vibrant, animated and very very very talkative during our recent mom mixer. From legs up on the table to show off their shoes to pulling out her kids’ artwork from her purse, it was such a joy to sit next to this woman that has overcome so many obstacles to not only be successful at life, but as an amazing actress. And we were just sitting, chatting about her first born going off to college. High school sports. Normal life things.

I sat only 2 seats away from Holly Combs (forever Piper to me). Both Laura and Holly talked about the importance of being there for their kids (even driving opposite school routes to avoid the HUGE billboards of your mom on the road). Constance was helping us to perfect our selfies. As parents, ABC Family really works with these amazing moms and their schedules. Lots of laughs, food and drinks were enjoyed by all. I couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing way to enjoy an evening with some of the most well-known moms on TV!

And after talking with these great ladies, it’s obvious that they’re just parents, like you and me. They have real kid problems (how do we get those teens of the smartphones?), dinner conversations, and carpool stories. Flexibility and communication are key to their families’ successes. Love (and a little humor) gets you through a day’s work.

And in case you need an extra laugh from how I acted during this mixer, check out my post 10 Things NOT to Do When Meeting Famous People.

A new episode of Switched at Birth airs TONIGHT, August 11th at 8 pm EST/PST. Watch as Bay and Emmett are elected senior prom queen and king while Daphne hits rock bottom.

And stay tuned TOMORROW, August 12th at 8 pm EST/PST for a new episode of Pretty Little Liars! Ali’s games may have pushed her friends too far when an innocent man’s life is put in the balance. Her next move could be a game changer!

What do you love about the moms of ABC Family?

Disclosure ~ I received a once in a lifetime trip from Disney to attend this epic event as media. All opinions are 100% my own, though the awestruck looks on my face are completely real. Be sure to follow Raising Whasians for more movie reviews, exclusive celebrity interviews, giveaways and more.

That’s awesome that you were able to meet some of the actresses (and moms) that you get to watch on TV every week. It’s nice to be reminded that they share the same experiences we do.

This must have been such a blast! I must confess, I’ve never watched any of these shows, but the actresses seemed really down to earth and very nice.

I have not seen the show yet. Looks like it will be a good one to watch a whole season on a rainy day.

How fun to meet these moms! I would love to meet Melissa Joan Hart from ABC family. I don’t really know many of these actresses on the drama shows.
