Silk’n Blue Review | Drug Free Acne Removal 

They said I’d outgrow it by adulthood.

Then they said to wait until after the craziness of college.

But here I am today, a 30-something year old mom still suffering with horrible acne. I have watched my acne change over the years, originally in the T-zone area to now more of the chin/cheek areas. To say that I’ve tried everything….well, I have. I tried just about every face wash, cream, and chemical there is…in multiple different combinations. In fact, before this review, I counted a total of 10 different products that I cycle through weekly. But the breakouts continue, especially when the weather is warm (aka, I live in Florida). So some jumping up and down occurred when I received the opportunity to try out a completely new acne removal device, completely chemical free. This handheld device is called Silk’n Blue.

How does Silk’n Blue work?

This handheld acne removal device uses fractional blue light and heat to neutralize and destroy bacteria immediately, while preventing future breakouts. Think of it as a zit zapper. With proper use, you should start seeing results in as little as 3 weeks. A natural, drug-free acne removal system, this device should NOT dry out your skin from harmful chemicals. Approved by the FDA and Health Canada cleared, Silk’n Blue provides safe at-home acne treatment for teens and adults.

How do you use the Silk’n Blue Device?

With a push of a button, this device becomes your at-home light treatment for acne. Using the gentle synergistic power of fractional blue light and heat (same as what is used in dermatologists offices), this device destroys bacteria that leads to breakouts.

1. Turn the Silk’n Blue device on. Wait for the green light to appear.
2. Apply the metal part of the device directly to your affected area (after washing). Leave on for 3-4 minutes.
3. Remove device.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for all affected areas of your face, neck and body as needed.

The idea is to apply this device up to twice daily for 6-8 weeks of initial treatment. After that, use about once a week to your problem areas.

Silk’n Blue Before and After Results

I have to say, I was pretty determined to get my acne under control with the Silk’n Blue system. The first couple of weeks were motivated by the end goal of clear skin. By about the 3rd week of very little difference, I was getting frustrated. I think the problem lied in the application process. One does not realize how long 3-4 minutes of holding a device to your face can be. Your arm gets tired. You lose track of time. And mostly for me, I am impatient and am constantly multi-tasking.

However, I will say that the Silk’n Blue does provide great results for those suffering from very small pinpoint pimples. I found that my little pimples would clear quickly, even as fast as 24 hours with use. My bigger more cystic acne that would appear around “that time of the month” however did not see much difference at all. The acne certainly did not get any bigger, so I do think the device helps to retard growth. But as far as fast results for that problematic large red acne bumps or the deep acne, my results were minimal at best.

The use of the device itself was painless. As you apply the device to your face, the Silk’n Blue does radiate heat, slowly increasing in temperature over time. This device possesses built-in temperature sensor (prevents the device from exceeding 41°C / 106°F) and automatic shut-off feature to prevent overheating. I didn’t find the use of the Silk’n Blue painful or too hot to handle. I had no ill affects like drying out or burn spots.

Silk’n Blue cons? There is a chance of getting a little bit of redness to the area (especially if you’re more fair skinned, but this goes away after device removal. Maybe Silk’n would consider a timer to install on the device? I would have loved to get a signal when the treatment was complete. Obviously, I would keep this device away from littles.

Who shouldn’t use Silk’n Blue?

• Abnormal skin conditions such as: Eczema, psoriasis, lesions, open wounds, cold sores and other active infections
• Those using physician prescribed AHA, BHA, Retin-A, topical retinoids or azelaic acid
• If you have been treated with Accutane (isotretinoin) within the past 6 months.
• If you have a history of herpes outbreaks in the area of treatment.

While I didn’t have the huge acne bust I was hoping for, I will continue to use Silk’n Blue in the hopes of better results. I might not stick to the twice a day, but at least daily use. If you’re looking for a drug-free, chemical-free acne treatment option, this is definitely one I would try.
