Would you take your family on the ultimate road trip?
We recently visited friends who made me take a different look at our family life. In a few months they had bought an RV, sold their possessions, and packed up their family. Now, they are beginning a beautiful journey to travel the country as a family over the next few years. Needless to say, we were shocked, excited and hopeful for this amazing road trip adventure ahead.
“Is this your house?”
“Does your bed go with you?”
“Can you go potty in here?”
Visiting their home-on-wheels got us dreaming of our own family adventures. Where will the road take us this year? I honestly don’t know. But one thing is for sure, our kids will definitely be along for the ride.
Road trips with kids in tow can be challenging. That’s why we will be road tripping with this FREE License Plate Game Printable for Kids – and lots of road trip snacks, of course.
Every Adventure Needs Good Road Trip Snacks
Will travel for snacks! Never fails that the first question asked on any road trip is “Are we there yet?” The second question is always “Can I have a snack?”
Road trip snacks are a must when traveling with kids. When packing for any long car trip with my kids, we’re always grabbing bags of G.H. Cretors popcorn. With so many delicious flavors in convenient grab-and-go bags, we have can perfectly popped snack every single time. Here are some of our family favorites:
- The Mix – Caramel meets Cheese in the perfect combo of sweet and salty!
- Buffalo Ranch Mix – Need a “pop” of flavor? Spicy buffalo and cool ranch combine for a zingy deliciousness.
- Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil – because sometimes simple flavors are all you need.

Last year we set off on a road trip with one of my favorite childhood road trip games – the license plate game. Having only a pad of paper and a pen, we wrote down as many different states as we could as we drove up and down the east coast. As much as I’d like to say that my kids were fully engaged in my favorite road trip activity, they quickly got bored.
But that didn’t mean I was giving up.
I wanted to create a fun checklist that we could take with us on future drives – building encouragement, fun and excitement into this classic road trip game. A much needed upgrade, we made this FREE Printable License Plate Game is the perfect addition to your next family road trip. I recommend high quality computer paper and/or thick cardstock for best printing results.

I always wanted to ditch the house/money pit and get an RV and just go My kids are a little older so they usually do their homework and have extensive conversations on our trips now. The popcorn does sound great for all ages..

This is a great idea for road tripping. We have to keep our kids occupied when we travel, so it might as well be educational.

As a proud Delawarean, I noticed that your arrow/state name is incorrect for both Delaware and Maryland! Delaware is the smaller one along the east coast. Maryland is the larger one that is split by the Chesapeake Bay. Thank you!
christie says
Thank you so much for pointing this out and sorry for any misconstrued idea that Delaware and Maryland are synonymous. I’m working on correcting the printable and updating the site!

what fun that would be ,,my grandkids would love this

East coast has many problems on this map. I know we may be small, but I think that accuracy is important when giving an educational tool to children…also this is a map of 48 states, AK and HI are missing and they are the most coveted in the game!
christie says
Hi Arianne,
We actually updated the map of the east coast a while ago and should be accurate (keeping in mind that creating a whole map, placing check boxes and trying to be mindful of state lines is difficult). I will update with Alaska and Hawaii and I’m honestly embarrassed that I FORGOT! Thank you for catching that miss.
