Free Science Field Trip on Wheels | WaterVentures Lab Comes to the Fair

It started as a day at the Florida State Fair with my son. We had goals. Wristbands. Rides. Delicious and slightly weird fair food. Memories to be made. It was during our stroll to the bumper cars that we spotted this huge tractor trailer sitting outside.

That’s odd.

And if the underwater mural painted across the trailer didn’t capture our attention, the curiosity of what was inside this giant trailer did. So what’s inside, you ask? Check out how WaterVentures transformed this 53-foot trailer into a free hands-on science field trip on wheels, educating over one million people and counting.

WaterVentures locations

WaterVentures does a great job of combining the best of science, technology and hands-on learning – and making it fun for the whole family. It’s no wonder that this mobile learning lab has been traveling Florida since 2013! Funded by the Zephyrhills® Brand, our favorite Florida water brand (remember when our family was filmed 24/7 for 2 weeks?), this mobile lab is making waves across the state. With cool and refreshing flavor from the natural springs of Florida, it’s no surprise that Zephyrhills® is committed to managing their local Florida springs for sustainability today and for years to come by fostering the next generation of water stewards and inspiring appreciation, understanding and respect for Florida’s water resources.

Thanks to their passion and efforts, WaterVentures has completed 449 school visits, 80 community events, and 120 summer programs to date. And on February 9, 2017 right here at the Florida State Fair, WaterVentures Lab hit a new goal – over one million people educated across the state of Florida! That’s a milestone definitely worth celebrating.

So how has this one tractor trailer reached over one million people? Check it out! We were impressed the moment we stepped inside. Immediately transported in the middle of a science experiment – NOTHING is off limits here. Kids and adults alike are encouraged to touch anything and everything in this lab. Within seconds my son took full advantage of this mobile science lab.

From pushing buttons to reveal water fun facts,

to opening drawers to reveal real Florida wildlife bones and artifacts,

to playing recycling and water cycle games on giant TV sized touch screens – this kid was mesmerized by all this trailer had to offer. And that’s not all.

The WaterVentures team really gets kids into the action with hands-on learning water experiments like microscope film discovery, water runoff demonstrations, and more. My son played, learned and discovered so much about Florida and water conservation that we ended up staying for over an hour.

Request WaterVentures

The coolest part about WaterVentures? You can find out how to request this portable science lab to come to you…for FREE! So whether you’re hosting a great community event or just wanting a unique science field trip experience to show up at your local school, WaterVentures continues their mission to educate families across the state of Florida – one million and beyond!

WaterVentures lab

While we rode rides, ate food, and even petted llamas at the Florida State Fair this year, it was the “science field trip on wheels” that became the hot topic of conversation on the drive home. My son couldn’t get over how much he learned about Florida, water and how he can make a difference.

“Hey mom, don’t forget to turn off the water when you brush your teeth!” Yep, he got it.
