5 Father’s Day Gifts for the Best Dad at Kmart

I am totally biased, but I definitely have the Best Dad. Like ever. Nope, you can’t argue with me. He’s pretty darn amazing. To celebrate the awesomeness that is my dad for the past 30+ years, I am celebrating Dad this Father’s Day with a little tribute to him. What have I gained from my dad? Here’s the top 5 gifts I’ve received from him over the years…and the top 5 gifts I’ve picked for him this Father’s Day 2015.

1. Hard Work Ethic

My dad knows exactly the type of work that’s required to get where you want to be. Always striving, always thinking, always doing, my dad taught me the importance of working hard for your dreams and goals. My dad served in the military. He started with a blue collar job and ended up owning a company. Because of him, I never settled for that “B” grade. I never stopped at high school. I worked hard to earning my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Still to this day, I put in 110% into my work because of my dad. He’s telling me to push harder everyday 🙂

2. Determination

Goes hand in hand with the hard work ethic. My dad’s determination when it comes to solving a problem is unmatched. He’s the one who would MacGyver a contraption. He’s a born leader. He could delegate quickly and efficiently. He would mull on a situation, for hours even, until he came up with an answer. While I certainly do not excel in all of these areas, I know that his determination has rubbed off on me. I get things done when called into action, just like him. And I’m definitely a problem “mull-er.”

3. Appreciation for True Beauty

Before there were even thoughts about a husband or dating, there was my dad. My dad made sure to tell me exactly how beautiful I was, just as I am. No make up. No hair dryers. No fancy dresses. He would sit down with me, look me in the eyes and say ” Christie, you are beautiful.” And I knew he meant every word. Even today, he still compliments like the best of them.

4. Forgiveness

Our relationship wasn’t perfect. We argued. A lot. My mom would tell me it was because we had similar personalities. Looking back, of course she was right. We are both stubborn and “always right.” But it was through some really heated moments that my dad’s softer side would come out. My dad has the heart of forgiveness, always blowing over his steam much quicker than myself.

5. My Cooking Skills

To be honest, this trait is something I hadn’t realized until I became a parent myself. My dad slowly grew into the cooking role of the house as I reached my preteen days and mom went back to work. Back then and even now, my dad was always trying something new in the kitchen. Experimenting, adjusting, tasting (lots and lots of tasting), he soon grew into a really awesome chef. Now, he provides direction and inspiration I use in my own kitchen as I create new dishes.

I am planning on getting him some tools that he can use at work. He has to buy his own tools so I thought that would be a great practical gift to get him this Fathers DayQ

My Father was not really around much when we were little. He worked an awful lot as a self-employed Carpenter. As we got older and him as well, he was around a bit more for us and he may have been tough, but he always wanted the best for us kids. You know, sometimes you just can take your Dad for granted and it’s hard when they are facing a life and death situation. My Dad has always helped us with information and his guidance. Right now, after a fall from a ladder a week ago this past Friday, he is paralyzed and has broken ribs, had surgery to put pins and bars into his upper neck area and lower back area. He can move his shoulders and his wrists but that’s about it. They tell us that he’ll most likely never walk again. They give him a 10-15% chance of that, however, they feel that if he keeps a positive attitude and works at it, that he will get movement in his upper body and he will be able to feed himself and do things with his hands again. He’s been going back and forth whether life is worth living like this or not and we’ve had some very trying days lately. Right now he says he’s going to fight it and stay around, however, that can chance again tomorrow. Seeing my father like this and knowing what he is in for, is very upsetting! He is a strong willed and stubborn man and I know that if he sets his mind to living and fighting, he can do it. I want my Dad around for next Father’s Day too! We all love him so much and hate to see him going through all of this, however, there is nothing we can do but visit him and encourage him. He’s a terrific man and father and I can’t even imagine what life would be without him! Anyway, Thanks for the Father’s Day Giveaway and he didn’t get any gifts yet for this Father’s Day, however, if he does come home, I know he will receive all his father’s day gifts then! Thanks for everything! Michele
