5 Father’s Day Gifts for the Best Dad at Kmart

I am totally biased, but I definitely have the Best Dad. Like ever. Nope, you can’t argue with me. He’s pretty darn amazing. To celebrate the awesomeness that is my dad for the past 30+ years, I am celebrating Dad this Father’s Day with a little tribute to him. What have I gained from my dad? Here’s the top 5 gifts I’ve received from him over the years…and the top 5 gifts I’ve picked for him this Father’s Day 2015.

1. Hard Work Ethic

My dad knows exactly the type of work that’s required to get where you want to be. Always striving, always thinking, always doing, my dad taught me the importance of working hard for your dreams and goals. My dad served in the military. He started with a blue collar job and ended up owning a company. Because of him, I never settled for that “B” grade. I never stopped at high school. I worked hard to earning my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Still to this day, I put in 110% into my work because of my dad. He’s telling me to push harder everyday 🙂

2. Determination

Goes hand in hand with the hard work ethic. My dad’s determination when it comes to solving a problem is unmatched. He’s the one who would MacGyver a contraption. He’s a born leader. He could delegate quickly and efficiently. He would mull on a situation, for hours even, until he came up with an answer. While I certainly do not excel in all of these areas, I know that his determination has rubbed off on me. I get things done when called into action, just like him. And I’m definitely a problem “mull-er.”

3. Appreciation for True Beauty

Before there were even thoughts about a husband or dating, there was my dad. My dad made sure to tell me exactly how beautiful I was, just as I am. No make up. No hair dryers. No fancy dresses. He would sit down with me, look me in the eyes and say ” Christie, you are beautiful.” And I knew he meant every word. Even today, he still compliments like the best of them.

4. Forgiveness

Our relationship wasn’t perfect. We argued. A lot. My mom would tell me it was because we had similar personalities. Looking back, of course she was right. We are both stubborn and “always right.” But it was through some really heated moments that my dad’s softer side would come out. My dad has the heart of forgiveness, always blowing over his steam much quicker than myself.

5. My Cooking Skills

To be honest, this trait is something I hadn’t realized until I became a parent myself. My dad slowly grew into the cooking role of the house as I reached my preteen days and mom went back to work. Back then and even now, my dad was always trying something new in the kitchen. Experimenting, adjusting, tasting (lots and lots of tasting), he soon grew into a really awesome chef. Now, he provides direction and inspiration I use in my own kitchen as I create new dishes.

My dad passed away about 12 years ago so I will be getting something for my husband from our children. He loves tools and anything with the outdoors, so maybe something for the garden?

My dad passed away many yrs ago. If he were still with me, he would want shirts. Maybe even pants and/or socks. My husband however, he would want tools or power tools. Or a good pair of work boots. Or a nice pair of sneakers. Or even shorts or pants or a nice shirt. He’s not very hard to buy for because he always wants so many different things lol. He’s a great guy.
