Dino Lingo Review | Korean Language Program Made Fun for Kids
It’s one of those things I had always imagined. One day, I would learn Korean. Having a connection with my Korean roots has always been important. I always dreamed of learning Korean, teaching my kids Korean and one day taking my family over to visit Korea.
But learning a second language at age *ahem* 30 something is not easy. Researchers say that learning a second language is so much easier at a young age. And I’m sure that everyone has heard how learning a second language can also enhance and develop learning skills for years to come. When Dino Lingo had contacted me about reviewing their award-winning language learning program for young children, I was almost in tears with excitement. My kids would get the opportunity to learn Korean…a dream I always had for them.
Let me say that I did have my skepticism about the program. Korean is NOT an easy language to learn. Would I see any improvement in my kids in a short 1 month time frame? Is the program really worthy of their Dr. Toy and Mom’s Best Awards? Let me share with you why Dino Lingo has changed my family forever.
It all starts with the videos
Dinosaurs teaching my kids Korean. It sounds crazy. But Dino Lingo has research and has gotten language learning down to a science. Your children are immediately brought into a world of imagination and excitement with the Dino Lingo gang. Using the Dino Lingo Method, your kids will soon be laughing, dancing and learning with each DVD WITHOUT boredom.
Dino Lingo uses bright and colorful animation, high energy songs and effective learning tools that had my kids sitting and watching within the first minute. And yes, this includes my 16 month old! Words are introduced gradually and in various contexts to help stimulate your child’s best ways to learn. You’ll see words introduced and then re-introduced variously throughout the DVDs, no strict repetition here! There’s funny characters, dance breaks, and little surprises to keep those young minds engaged for the full 35 minutes per video.
I couldn’t believe how much progress my son was making, within the first 3 times we watched. He was quickly picking up animal names and numbers (2 of his favorites). And by 2 weeks in, we were getting down colors and short talking phrases. Even my daughter while not saying of the words yet, loves dancing to the music!
Add some fun learning tools
Getting a second language to stick is more than your kids watching the TV. Engaging your children away from technology not only helps to boost their memory skills but confidence as well. We love the Dino Lingo tools. These large posters are bright, vibrant and help engage your child in active learning long after the DVDs end. My son’s favorite poster is the numbers one. He is so proud when I can point to a number and he can tell me what that number is in Korean. Just amazing to see his passion and love for learning continue off screen!
I love the little flashcards! Perfect for travel, we can bring a few to take on just little trips, like the grocery store! I love having the correct pronunciation on each card so I can feel confident telling him the correct words as he repeats them back to me.
The progress chart has been so helpful! My son loves getting praise, and adding new stickers to his chart is just another way of encouraging him to keep going!
Top it off with new dino friends
These animated and colorful dinosaurs are more than just teaching characters. My son loves interacting with them on the screen, as if he were talking to his best friend. You can hear the wheels turning when he gets to say the Korean word before his dino buddy. He laughs along with their dancing and silly antics, even calling them by name. When he watches the videos with his new plush in hand, he is just riveted!

I am still in tears. I am watching my children embrace their Korean heritage through the Dino Lingo program. My son keeps adding new Korean words to his vocabulary everyday. Each new word brings a smile, a confidence and a pride in his cultural background. Even my stubborn adult brain has picked up a few words by practicing along with him. That dream of visiting Korea may become a reality soon, with my KIDS leading the way!

This looks like a great program! Some of our classroom in our elementary school are Spanish-immersion. I’ve heard it is easier for kids to learn, but I opted my kids out of those programs for now. I hope I don’t regret it!

My sister-in law is wanting to teach my niece and nephew other languages. I think she’s wanting to teach both of them Spanish because she’s got some Spanish in her heritage.

My son will more than likely learn Spanish since many of the kids around us speak Spanish as their first language. My brother is actually going to be stationed in Korea for a year. I should refer this program to him. (Surely it’ll help a 32-year-old?)

I would love for my kids to learn Portuguese! My father is from Portugal.

Honestly I would probably teach my child either Spanish or Japanese both because of their prevalence in the business world. There are so many jobs that require 1 of those 2 languages so it could and would be a valuable asset to know them.
