10 Best Summer Survival Tips for Mom | The Hilarious Edition
Ok, so we’re not really in survival mode. But hey, every mom needs a good laugh, especially during summer. Because we have kids. We have kids that are now at home 24/7. It’s overwhelming. It’s stressful. It’s…hilarious? Well don’t worry; it’s going to be. Mom, take a break and enjoy these 10 Best Summer Survival Tips for Mom: The Hilarious Edition. The tips are free. The side of humor is priceless.
1. Have a game plan
Routine, it keeps our whole family grounded, even during the summer months. Our first day of summer, I had my son write out our summer schedule from morning to bedtime. Hanging outside both of my kids’ rooms, this schedule serves as a point of reference and foundation for our summer days.
2. But don’t freak out if it’s not executed
Do we always make the bed? No, not even me. Do we always get to have our educational workbook sessions while my toddler is having her 19th meltdown that day? Nope. While it’s great to have a daily routine in place, it’s important to remind yourself that it’s summer too. Time for relaxing, sleeping in and lazy days. Go with the flow. Take deep breaths. Pull up the lounge chair. Add a teeny umbrella to your drink. We’re going to be A-ok.
3. Step up your coffee routine
While I cherish more time with my children, there are days…..yeah. There are DAYS. So I definitely look to find a little extra perk of happiness in my everyday. And for me, it’s coffee. Even if my kids are having “one of those days,” there’s always mom’s coffee time. Summer calls for the ultimate coffee solution.
Meet my new best friend, new Caribou Iced Coffee. Just in time for the hottest months of the year, these little bottles of happiness are my perfect companions for summer survival. Now available in three flavors – Chocolate Mocha, Sea Salt Caramel and Vanilla – and made with authentic Caribou Coffee and premium ingredients – like real chocolate and caramel – and reduced fat milk, it’s the perfect coffeehouse treat that’s ready to drink, no matter where our summer travels may take us!
I have to admit, the Sea Salt Caramel is a great way to enjoy a little splash pad time in Florida. An icy cold drink for summer sipping. Yes. 100% yes.
My kids are smiling. And mom is smiling.
4. Have a Plan Y
Back up plans are always good to have in mind. I have lots of summer activities stored for a rainy day (Ha! Get the pun?), or quick changes in our schedule. I also give my kids options whenever possible.
5. But let them be bored
I’m just saying. Boredom produces some of the best play. There are many days when there’s NO technology allowed. No television. No video games. No wifi. And to watch these two kids come up with creative games, adventures and imaginative ideas…it’s priceless.
6. Swimsuit attire encouraged
Parents, have you figured out the summer wardrobe secret yet? It’s swimsuits. Here’s why your kids need to wear one everyday. 1) Less laundry. 2) No dryer required. 3) No iron required. 4) Repeat attire is completely acceptable. 5) Less laundry.
7. If it begins with the word “water,” go for it
See #6 above. But in all seriousness, water play is ah-mazing. If you need some water play ideas, grab these 40+ Summer Water Activities for Kids.
8. Air conditioning is your best friend
Whoever invented air conditioning, thank you. I’ll trade 100 degree temperatures and 100% humidity for a little A.C. any day. If it ever gets too hot, I retreat to places where we can cool down in comfort. Malls and libraries are wonderful places for kids to explore this summer. BONUS, they’re also free.
9. Know your exit strategy
I’m outnumbered. 2 kids. 1 me. Always. Right. Here. I get it. At least when school was in session, we got a little relief. But during the summer months, it’s so important to take time for self-care. Moms, we need it.
10. Laugh
My best tip to surviving a summer with 2 kids at home ALL season long? Laugh. Laugh when the memories are sweet. Laugh when everyone is melting down. Laugh until it hurts. You only have so many more summers with your kids at home. All too soon you’ll be begging them to stay home for the summer. Laugh with your kids and take advantage of every moment with them.
