10 Quirky Reasons Why I Love My Husband

We hit a huge milestone this week. My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. Pretty big deal. Somewhere between feeling really old and feeling really blessed that this guy would want to hang around me for so long, I realized my husband is just amazing. So as a loving and hilarious ode to the guy that stole my heart, I’m revealing 10 quirky reasons why I love my husband for today’s Family Focus Friday. Hoping he still loves me after reading this 🙂

He’s always good for a bun pat

His mom. His siblings. His friends. My friends. The kids. He always has a pat of the bottom for that. His calling card, this guy knows how to make you feel uncomfortably comfortable. I mean, why handshake anymore really?

His OCD has no end

My husband is probably the most predictable guy I know. He dresses in a certain order everyday. He lays out his toiletries in the bathroom the same way everyday. He feels for his wallet, keys and briefcase at least 100x per day.

A place for everything and everything in it’s place (except for the end of the toothpaste, that tube will just sit on the counter instead of the trash). And if something is out of his “order,” he is constantly battling in his mind to fix it. Ask him about his mileage games when we drive in the car. Scary.

His laughter is an octave higher than mine

This guy knows how to laugh. Hyenas need to move over because if you get my guy belly laughing, there’s no chance. He’s loud. He’s crying. And yes, his pitch is high, really high. You’d think you’d just given him a wedgie, but no. That’s his signature laugh.

He never ages

How is it possible to wear the same size pants from high school to today? So unfair! My husband hasn’t aged a bit in the 10 years that we’ve been married, and the 14 years that we have been together. He still fits in his high school clothes (Yes, he still has them. That’s a whole other argument.), still gets carded when we go out, and always gets asked if he’s a student at work instead of the administrator. Seriously. This guy is going to end up being the same pants size as me at the rate that I’m aging!

His “eclectic” fashion sense

Blue on blue. Grey on Grey. Black belt and white socks. Cringe. If there’s ever a guy that walks to his own tune, it’s my husband. Completely unaffected by changes in men’s fashion over the past decade, he has no problem stepping out of the house with pleated pants and a shirt from the 80s. I swear if I never bought him clothes he’d still be walking around in his torn up to his thigh basketball shorts (you’re welcome, World!). Always a trend setter (at least in his mind), my husband will forever be an original.

He’s more domestic than I am

He cooks, he cleans, he does laundry, he even wears a flowery apron. I am forever thankful that God game me a man that never minds helping around the house. He loves it. I couldn’t stop him if I tried. I’ve even been scolded on multiple occasions that I didn’t scrub a dish as well as he could have. OUCH! But seriously, what wife wouldn’t want a guy that does more than sit and watch football all day? Seriously, sexy.

There’s a list for everything

See #2. Even if we are just cooking dinner at home, there’s a list for that. Jotting down times, ingredients he needs, calculating how things should come out at the same time, he has a very thorough list for that. I’m always finding Post-It notes all over the house. List after list, it’s his security blanket in the world.

He knows how to push my buttons

In a good way. He’s always driving me to be better, to do more and become a person I could never have dreamed of. Sometimes he drives me absolutely nuts (what spouse doesn’t), but he sees the potential in me that I don’t even see.

He loves our kids more than anything

They all say it. You think you really know how much to love your husband….and then you have kids. That love exponentially grows off the charts when you have children. It’s completely true. He is so obsessed with our 2 beautiful kids. Watching them play, read, and snuggle together brings me so much joy every single day. He is not just a good father but the best father for my kids.

Because after 10 years, I still don’t know everything

You’d think I’d know everything about my best friend after 14 years together, but I’m constantly learning something new. Like just Wednesday I learned that he actually likes to drink Sangria. Who knew?

There’s always something changing and growing in our relationship (mostly my waistline), but it’s in all of my husband’s quirks that I find the really really really “GOOD” stuff. He’s mine, quirks and all. And I couldn’t be happier as his wife. Cheers to us and 50 more years of marriage together. I know that we will beat the statistics. We are forever soulmates.
