Custom Red Carpet Dress Experience | Designed By Lall Dass
Once Upon A Time there was a mom who sat at home in yoga pants and messy bun hair. She couldn’t remember the last time she brushed her teeth or put on lipstick. But then this mom was invited to her first red carpet event. Cinderella. Not just any dress would do, so she called in a professional (aka Fairy Godmother) Lall Dass to custom design the perfect red carpet dress. And you would not believe the adventure this dress took us on. This is our story.
The last time I had a custom made dress made for me….I had to have been in elementary school. My grandmother handmade a dress, fit for Sunday School or a wedding, but for a little girl that enjoyed Mary Janes and pigtails. Needless to say, I was out of the fashion design world. So when I finally got that amazing once in the lifetime Red Carpet opportunity, I knew I had to have the perfect dress. I mean, c’mon! It’s Cinderella here! The Glitz, the glamor, the dress….it had to be amazing. Thankfully, I knew a long time high school friend, who happened to be a high-end couture boutique fashion designer. And she was so excited to start this project!
Lall Dass is a fashion company, where the amazing designer Tracy creates the most unique and beautiful custom pieces. And lucky you, she’s also a perfectionist. Having a degree in Fashion Design and Chemistry (bet you didn’t see that one coming!), and a former dancer and model, she is well-versed in how material should fit and feel when you move. Her work spans from high end wedding dresses to red carpet events, even starting to dabble a bit in a men’s line. And to work with her and showcase her talent, I was HONORED to wear Lall Dass.
That’s not to say that our dress didn’t have a few snags (bad pun, I know) along the way. I had no idea how much work and effort went into creating a custom gown. No clue at all. So here’s how our dress was made…from start to finish.
Keeping in mind that I live in Orlando and Tracy lives in South Florida, the project was already presenting it’s challenges. A 1-month timeline. Families. Lives. It wasn’t the sit in a studio and be measured over tea. In fact, my first fitting was in a restaurant parking lot, outside. But keeping the conversation light, Tracy was a professional in every way, making sure to measure and remeasure me for the most accurate fitting. Then came the fabrics.
I was drowning in a sea of color…all via phone. Endless rolls of fabrics in every color imaginable were coming my way. And Tracy spent hours searching for me. How to choose?! Tracy was able to thoughtfully explain each fabric and what she thought would look best on me, on the carpet, in the lighting. She cared so much! In the end, we both chose this luxurious blue. It had a hint of Tracy’s modern ethnic flair, while still keeping the storybook fairy tale intact.
A watercolor sketch came next. It was neat to start seeing her vision. We talked about designs and my concerns (which were numerous), and sent pictures of famous people and Pinterest designs. She kept my modesty in mind, a professional dress for representing Disney and myself on the carpet, a princess charm, and a modern feel while still having that essence of Cinderella undertones….but nothing compared to actually looking at part of the fashion designer’s vision.
The dress design itself changed quite a bit from vision to reality. The flow of the fabric, the time crunches, the sick kids, we were BOTH under a lot of pressure. By the second fitting, I was completely nervous. The dress was in pieces (which I wasn’t expecting). Two tops were made, and I was having a hard time envisioning how I wasn’t going to have an exposed midriff on the carpet. And there were fabric linings, hidden zippers, and skirt volume to add. Tracy assured me the dress would be perfect and she kept working all night to try and give me the dress the next day. But still not perfection in her mind.
Then sickness hit my house, hard. Only Tracy would go out of her way to shop for shoes for my red carpet dress days before my trip. She sent me pics and picked out the perfect pair. By the time we had our final fitting, it was only two days before I was to hop on a plane. Was I beyond anxious? You’d better believe it. But then the dress went on….and I was in love. Last minute touches and even a bit of sewing while I was in the dress…but the results are nothing short of fantastic. And while we were both sad to cut off the bottom of the poof (because Christie has no walking-in-heels ability), we both couldn’t be happier.
Oh the story this dress can now tell. Stories of moms, of priceless moments, of hope. A dress where I felt like a movie star for a night. Compliments from fellow friends, strangers and even stars themselves!! This dress was a dream come true on so many levels. And our fairy tale doesn’t end there. All of the buzz on social media has landed Lall Dass with so many more clients, praise from the fashion world and of course, exposure for a wonderful designer and friend. My Lall Dass Red Carpet Dress Experience was so much more than a dress. It was working alongside a friend, a mom, a personal shopper, a stylist, a psychiatrist, delivery lady, cheerleader, and a professional in every way. I could not have had my Cinderella Moment without her. My custom Cinderella dress was everything I could have hoped for and more. Beautiful, elegant and princess for a night, I wouldn’t have imagined experiencing my first red carpet any other way. Lall Dass made my Red Carpet Dress Experience a highlight of my life, personally and professionally. And I highly recommend that everyone use Lall Dass for your next Cinderella moment.

wow, I’m in awe at this dress, and it is very pretty on you! Love the fabric, too! I sew, and I was just taking out dresses I had made (and not worn), and wondering if anyone appreciates something made by hand. I don’t know where I’d wear a dress like that, I’d wear it to the grocery store if I had to, just to have it!!! The designer did an amazing job!
