5 Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Fun Facts #LegoFreemakerEvent
It’s the perfect combination. LEGO and Star Wars. Seriously whoever thought of putting these two things together in an iconic show…just take my money now. My 7 year old son was already in love with the LEGO Star Wars phenomenon. So when he heard that there’s another amazing series coming to the Disney XD? It took him 2.2 nanoseconds to ask me when he could watch.
I got to sit down with the creators/executive producers and star of the brand new Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures series in this fun Q&A interview. So here’s 5 LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Fun Facts you have to share with your LEGO Star Wars fan!
If you haven’t heard anything about the latest LEGO Star Wars series, comedy meets adventure in this kids’ show. Set between the events of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” this series follows the Freemaker family, 3 scavenger siblings who find, build and sell starships from debris throughout the galaxy. However, when the youngest Freemaker, Rowan, discovers a natural connection with the Force through the mysterious Kyber Saber, his family is instantly thrown into an epic struggle with the Empire. With strong connections to LEGO, Star Wars, family and humor, The LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures series brings out of this world epic-ness to your child’s universe.
It’s the LEGO Star Wars Show that Almost Didn’t Happen
Bill Motz and Bob Roth were literally this close to not having a new LEGO Star Wars series. They admit that fear kept them from realizing their dreams. Good thing they have some really persuasive friends…
We were actually on another show, on staff and we had to make a choice about if we were going to leave that job to jump into this. And to be honest with you it was intimidating because this is a partnership between Lucasfilm and LEGO and the Disney Corporation…That is overwhelming. What if we screw it up? What if we make this thing that’s not good? We actually ended that morning when we had to make the decision we’re going to NOT do the show. And some friends of ours thank goodness…
What were you thinking?
Don’t be operating from this place of fear like because you will always regret it. And now I want to just kick ourselves in the butt for even thinking about it. You would have missed out on the best experience you can have professionally in your lives and even beyond that, the relationships we’ve built across the company. Everybody we’ve worked with is just fantastic.
The Characters are Inspired by Producer Bob Roth’s Sons
Where do you find inspiration for a new LEGO Star Wars show? Sometimes it’s right at home! Bob Roth admits that both of his sons inspired the characters of Zander and Rowan, making sure that the underdog is the hero.
Certainly loosely. Rowan is my younger son and Zander is my older son, very much so. Rowan and my 12-year-old, Danny share the super enthusiasm for life and the inability to just sit still for a moment. Touching things we shouldn’t touch, the lack of focus. And also Rowan has a really good heart.
Danny has struggled with all this you know ADHD. You know academically it’s a struggle. A kid like that is always going to be faced like why aren’t you focusing on school? Why aren’t you doing these things? Why you know, it’s just hard and it’s hard as a parent too to have a kid who is struggling. I love the fact that you made your son who struggles with that the hero of our show.
My older son is very much a Zander, also a good heart. He is a gear head, he is obsessed with fast cars. And he can hear a Ferrari eight blocks away going around the corner. And he cannot only tell you it’s a Ferrari but he can tell you oh, that’s a Ferrari, F tight 21 with a twin cam engine with blah, blah, blah, blah. So Zander is very much that. Zander is very much this guy who can see a starship in hyperspace just out of the corner of his eye.
Nicholas Cantu (Rowan) is One to Watch!
This kid is vibrant, energetic and hilarious. He walked into the room and you immediately felt his energy. Nicholas Cantu, the voice of Rowan is beyond excited to be a part of this universe. And after just having a brief discussion with him, I could already tell that this guy is going to go far.
This is a big thing for me. Star Wars?! It’s a dream come true. Lego?! That’s like every kids dream ever. And you know being lucky enough to have this opportunity is really amazing. You know? It’s just, it’s the whole package though, a Disney show, Lego, Star Wars. Having a toy of me?! I might as well retire.
Why does Nicholas think your kids are going to love this series?
If they watched any other Lego stuff you know the comedy is very strong. I love all the Lego jokes in there. They’re all very funny. And you’re also going to get that classic Star Wars storytelling that you’ve come to know and love, the battle between good and evil. And they’re just going to love having very serious moments. And then different jokes. So I think they’re going to enjoy kind of the mix. It’s got adventure. It’s got action and comedy. And also the content and you know the characters too. They’re all wacky and wonderful.
The Script of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was Involved in the Process
It’s no surprise that Lucasfilm was heavily involved in the process of this series. But I honestly had no idea until Bob and Bill said “Episode VII script.” What?! Yes, before they even had approval for the show concept, these guys were fortunate enough to read pages of the script before the movie was ever released. Why, you ask? It’s important.
Carrie Beck is part of the Lucas film story group. She has a smile and this smile is, “you’ve blundered into something I can’t tell you about.” So we’re here pitching a story and you know and she just goes, “you know guys, we can’t do that.” And we’re like why, it makes total sense? But we had our family as scavengers before we knew that Ray was a scavenger.
But watching the force awakens for the first time I was like, “oh that’s why we couldn’t do that story.”
We got to read pages from episode seven. We didn’t get to see the whole story but they brought us into a room and gave us [access.]
Because we and our show – we’re going to go someplace and interact with some people that you saw in episode seven.
So we got to read those scenes but the movie hadn’t been out yet.
They Already Have the LEGO Sets in Stores
WHAT?! That’s right, LEGO has already released the toys for the new LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures in stores right now. If you’re searching for the two new sets, here’s what Bill want you to know:
It doesn’t actually say Freemaker Adventures on the box. It just says Star Wars. It’s got our characters on the box front.
So in case that you’re looking, make sure that you’re searching for the characters Rowan, Zander, Kordi, R0-GR, and more on the box.
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures premieres on Disney XD this Monday 6/20 at 10 am EST. I have one little fan that’s counting down the nanoseconds. How about you?
