9 Window Safety Tips for Families That You Didn’t Know
I would think that by child #2, I would have this parenting thing figured out. But the transition from boy to girl has been significantly….a curve ball. One of the biggest differences between my daughter and my son? Safety. This girl can leap off couches in a single bound. She can climb shelves in a single blink of my eye. She has gotten more boo-boos and scrapes than her brother in the 2 years she’s been with us. So when I heard about these 9 Window Safety Tips for Families That You Didn’t Know from Smith & Noble, I was SHOCKED just how many tips I wasn’t implementing in my own home. Window Safety Tips for Families
When it comes to safety, I immediately think cabinet locks, plug covers and toilet seat locks. Baby proofing the house for the second time seemed like a no-brainer…until my daughter became a walking, talking, and mobile toddler. WOW. Just when I thought I had seen it all, she discovers yet another way that this mom hadn’t baby proofed our home. I would have never thought to baby proof my windows until Smith & Noble shared these great window safety tips. Are you aware of them all?
1. Move all furniture and climbable surfaces away from windows.
2. Install only cordless window coverings in homes with young children, especially in bedrooms and play areas.
3. Make sure tasseled pull cords are as short as possible.
4. Continuous-loop pull cords on draperies and vertical blinds should be pulled tight and anchored to the floor or wall.
5. Be sure cord stops are properly installed and adjusted to limit inner-cord movement.
6. Keep all window cords well out of the reach of children.
7. Consider installing window guards to keep children from falling out of an open window. Make sure that each installed window guard has a quick release mechanism in case an emergency exit is necessary.
8. If you have outdated window treatments, get your FREE safety kits from Smith and Noble to update your family’s windows to a safe standard.
9. Replace window blinds, corded shades and draperies manufactured before 2001 with today ’s safer products, such as Smith & Noble, which include safety features such as loop control, cordless operation and wand pull.
