Doctor On Demand Review
It’s the weekend. Our family is ready for a flurry of summer fun activities and BAM! We get blindsided with a child with pink eye. Join me in a ceremonial GROAN. Just me, or does your family seem to get sick at the MOST inconvenient times? With the pediatrician office closed on the weekend, we can either A) head to the walk-in clinic and wait over an hour with a room full of sick people to be seen, B) go to the ER and wait even longer to be seen. None of those options are enticing with 2 small children with short attention spans and shorter fuses. Then I heard about Doctor On Demand, treatment I needed for my child…right now.
Poor little man! No mom likes to see their children sick, and this face needed attention right away. I’ll be completely honest; I was definitely a skeptic at first. With my background in pediatric nursing, I was very set in my ways as far as getting the best treatment for my children. But afterwards, I was actually highly impressed with my experience and how EASY it was to get my son the treatment he needed when he needed it. Here’s how it works:
1. Open your Doctor On Demand App and Fill out a short request form
So before I made my video chat call, I had to opportunity jot down my son’s signs and symptoms BEFORE the call starts. This gives the doctor the opportunity to review the case BEFORE you connect. I entered in my son’s pink eye symptoms as well as any allergies to medications. There’s also a place for extra notes.
2. Connect with a REAL U.S. licensed, board-certified doctor
I wish I took a picture of my face as I watched my phone connect. You see the picture above? I waited a total of 18 seconds before seeing a doctor. SHOCK does not even begin to describe my reaction!
As a mom and a nurse, I know you’re just as worried as I am about what kind of doctor you will receive. Know that Doctor On Demand only uses U.S. licensed and board certified doctors with years of experience. Each doctor is background checked BEFORE joining the Doctor On Demand team. Dr. Phil is an advisor and his son Jay McGraw is the co-founder of Doctor On Demand.
3. Get the treatment you need fast
I couldn’t believe that I had a doctor’s full attention for 15 minutes. After giving consent for the doctor to treat my child (I am so glad that she did this step!), she quickly looked at my son’s eye, told me treatment option, took down my pharmacy information and gave my patient education instructions for treatment of my son at home.
And within minutes, I received a text message right to my phone. My son’s eye drop prescription was already called into my pharmacy and I was able to pick up within 30 minutes. I couldn’t believe my whole visit including prescription pick-up was under 1 hour. That is UNHEARD of in the medical field!
Doctor On Demand can help treat you and your family for a variety of different diagnoses including:
- cold, flu, allergies, cough
- rashes, pink eye, hay fever
- bladder infections
- specialist referrals
- prescription refills
- non-life threatening cases
See the full list of treated diagnoses HERE.
Now, I will say that Doctor On Demand is OBVIOUSLY not for every scenario. Do NOT use this app for anything considered life-threatening including chest pain, seizures, serious injuries including head/neck trauma, broken bones, or possible poisoning.
4. Only $40 per call
That’s about the same co-pay I would have to pay stepping into a weekend walk-in clinic….but without the wait. Including the quick prescription service, I absolutely think was a great deal for the care my son and I received. And if you add stressful situations such as car trouble, multiple child under your feet and hectic mom schedules, having the convenience of Doctor On Demand definitely has its advantages.
While it was such a coincidence that my son needed to be treated for pink eye, I feel very blessed that we were able to use Doctor On Demand. We were seen in SECONDS, received quality care and treatment, and all at an affordable price.
